In a novel step the state government has introduced a new scheme– mother on campus.
Education Minister Ratanlal Nath said, under the scheme now biological mothers or the mothers who legally adopted a child will be able to stay with their children in the government-run hostels.
As per the new scheme the mothers of two students will be allowed to stay in the hostels at a time for one week. Before leaving the hostels, they will share their feedback regarding studies of the children, cleanliness, quality of foods and discipline in a prescribed format. The feedback will be reviewed by the hostel superintendents every week.
The scheme would not cover the boy’s hostels (except the students of Class I to V) where infrastructures like separate accommodation and toilets are not available, he said.
According to Nath, no additional funds for foods of the mothers would be required and the presence of mothers would help the students connect with studies in a bigger way.
He said the decision on ‘mother on campus’ was taken followed by a meeting held in September last.
The Education minister said total 9, 935 students are now staying in 204 hostels run by the SC, ST and Minorities Welfare departments.
Nath expressed hope saying that the project would help bring a change in the hostel environment.
