Four Tripura students from Netaji Nagar English Medium SB School celebrated Raksha Bandhan with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, presenting handmade rakhis, greeting cards, a bamboo replica of Mata Tripura Sundari Temple and traditional Risha, showcasing Tripura’s rich cultural heritage.
Four students from Netaji Nagar English Medium S.B. School in West Tripura district had a memorable opportunity to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, representing Tripura’s culture, traditions and creative talent on the occasion.
The students — Meheresiya Sarkar of Class V and Amit Kumar Sarkar, Rike Deb and Pratik Sarkar of Class VI — were part of a Tripura delegation that visited Rashtrapati Bhavan for the special Raksha Bandhan programme. The delegation was led by Abhijit Samajpati, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the School Education Department and Nodal Officer for Raksha Bandhan.
Teachers Biswajit Bhowmik and Biplab Kumar Deb accompanied the students during their visit to the national capital.
During the interaction, the students tied rakhis on the hands of President Murmu and conveyed their warm wishes on the auspicious occasion. The President also tied a rakhi on Meheresiya Sarkar, making the celebration particularly memorable for the Class V student.
The Tripura delegation presented several handmade and culturally significant items to the President. Among the gifts was a bamboo replica of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, one of Tripura’s important cultural and religious landmarks. The students also presented handmade rakhis and greeting cards that they had prepared themselves ahead of the visit.
A traditional Risha was also presented to the President, highlighting the cultural identity and traditional craftsmanship of Tripura. Another special gift was a pencil sketch of President Droupadi Murmu drawn by Pralay De, a student with special needs from Udaipur.
The exchange provided the students with an opportunity to showcase their creativity while introducing the President to elements of Tripura’s rich cultural heritage.
President Murmu interacted warmly with the young visitors and asked them about Tripura, its culture and traditions. During the interaction, she also encouraged the students to perform a song. The students responded to the request by presenting a song before the President.
According to the Tripura team, President Murmu appreciated the handmade rakhis and greeting cards prepared by the students and acknowledged their creativity and efforts.
The Raksha Bandhan programme was followed by a guided tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Officials of the historic presidential complex accompanied the students and teachers and explained the history, architecture and significance of the sprawling building.
During the tour, the students visited important areas of Rashtrapati Bhavan, including the Banquet Hall, meeting halls and other significant rooms. They were also shown rooms associated with important constitutional occasions, including the swearing-in ceremonies of the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers.
The students were briefed on the historical background and heritage of Rashtrapati Bhavan, giving them an opportunity to learn about one of India’s most important constitutional institutions.
The delegation also toured the surroundings and gardens of the presidential complex. The visit offered the young students a glimpse into areas that regularly host high-profile dignitaries, including the Prime Minister, Union ministers and foreign delegates.
For the four students and their accompanying teachers, the Raksha Bandhan celebration at Rashtrapati Bhavan became an important and cherished experience. Their interaction with President Murmu also provided them with an opportunity to represent Tripura at the national level.
The visit highlighted the spirit of Raksha Bandhan while bringing together children, national leadership and India’s diverse cultural traditions. The handmade gifts, traditional Risha, bamboo artwork and student-created materials reflected Tripura’s artistic heritage and the creativity of its young generation.
