Tripura LoP Jitendra Chaudhury has alleged that conspiracies are being hatched to suppress facts surrounding former DGP Anurag’s death, demanding Chief Minister Manik Saha resign from the Home portfolio and questioning the alleged suicide note.
Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday alleged that “conspiracies are being hatched” to conceal facts surrounding the death of former state Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, amid a political confrontation in the Assembly over an alleged suicide note.
Chaudhury’s remarks came shortly after Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman was suspended from the final day of the Assembly session after raising questions about the alleged suicide note of the former DGP. The suspension triggered strong protests from Opposition legislators, while CPI(M) MLAs staged a walkout from the House.
Speaking to reporters, Chaudhury demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha from the Home portfolio, alleging that important facts connected with the DGP’s death were being withheld.
“Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha should immediately resign from his Home portfolio as he is hiding facts behind the death of the DGP,” Chaudhury said.
The Leader of Opposition referred to the claims made by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman regarding the alleged suicide note. According to Chaudhury, the note has not been made public despite claims that the former DGP’s wife had received a photocopy of it.
“According to the MLA, the wife of the DGP had received a photocopy of the suicide note. In this circumstance, where is the hard copy of the note? Why has this not been made public yet?” Chaudhury questioned.
He further alleged that the state government was attempting to suppress information concerning the circumstances that led to the former police chief’s death. Chaudhury claimed that the alleged suppression of facts could prevent the public from knowing whether anyone had influenced or prompted the DGP to take the extreme step.
“The Chief Minister and his government are trying to suppress the facts behind the DGP’s death and hence conspiracies are being hatched to hide the people who prompted the DGP to commit suicide,” he alleged.
The Opposition leader also criticised the manner in which Sudip Roy Barman was suspended from the Assembly. He termed the action illegal and questioned the procedure followed by the House while taking the decision against the Congress legislator.
According to Chaudhury, if the Congress MLA was to be suspended, a member from the treasury bench should have formally proposed his suspension. He alleged that the required procedure was not followed before the action was taken.
The developments have intensified the political debate in Tripura over the circumstances surrounding the former DGP’s death. The Opposition has demanded greater transparency regarding the alleged suicide note and the circumstances leading to the death, while also questioning the government’s handling of the issue.

The controversy has now extended beyond the alleged suicide note to the functioning of the Assembly itself, with the Opposition raising questions over the suspension of an elected legislator and the procedure adopted during the final sitting.
