Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday claimed that apart from infrastructure improvement employment had also increased in the healthcare sector after the formation of BJP government. He was addressing a programme at Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (RIPSAT) organized to mark World Pharmacists Day.
“Apart from improvement of service and infrastructure, employment generation has also increased in the healthcare sector after the formation of the BJP government. Besides, we introduced 24×7 services in some of the primary healthcare centres of ADC which were earlier non-functional,” Deb said.
As part of the programme, the Chief Minister introduced a PG course (Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutics) and laid the foundation stone for the Girl’s Hostel at RIPSAT Campus, Agartala on Saturday.
Deb said the number of seats in RIPSAT was increased from 30 to 60 after the BJP-IPFT government was formed. Besides, an amount of Rs. 3 crore was sanctioned for the girls hostel. He said the RIPSAT now came out of the uncertainty and shortage of students; due to proper management, even many students now go to the waiting list.
In the programme, a lifetime achievement award was given to retired pharmacist Manoranjan Naha. His son received the award.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment- Pratima Bhowmik, who also attended the programme, said the pharmacists played an important role in conducting the successful vaccination drive.
She emphasized on planting of medicinal trees, their conservation and research in the days to come.
Principal Secretary (Health) J.K. Sinha, RIPSAT principal Subhakanta Dash and Director of Tripura Medical Education Chinmoy Biswas were present.
