Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala manages disruptions amid 39 IndiGo flight cancellations with enhanced passenger support, increased seating, sanitation, refreshments, and improved airline performance, ensuring smooth travel and comfort during November 29–December 9 flight disturbances.

Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala has been facing significant operational challenges recently due to the cancellation of 39 IndiGo flights between November 29 and December 9, impacting thousands of passengers. In response, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has implemented comprehensive measures to minimize inconvenience and maintain smooth airport operations during this period.

The disruption primarily affected IndiGo flights, one of the busiest carriers at MBB Airport. According to official sources, these cancellations resulted from operational constraints that temporarily affected IndiGo’s schedule reliability. However, airport authorities and the airline worked closely to mitigate the impact on travelers.

To ensure passenger comfort amid the disruptions, MBB Airport authorities swiftly enhanced facilities. Additional seating arrangements were created both inside and outside the terminal building to accommodate waiting passengers. Recognizing the importance of hygiene, especially in a high-traffic environment, sanitation protocols were intensified. Airport cleaning staff increased the frequency of cleaning restrooms and other public areas to maintain a safe and clean environment.

Passengers stranded due to cancellations were also provided with complimentary refreshments. Drinking water, snacks, and beverages were made readily available in the waiting areas. Airport management instructed food outlets and vendors to remain operational until the departure of the last flight each day. Vendors were also advised to keep adequate stock levels and maintain stable pricing despite the increased demand, ensuring passengers had access to affordable food options during extended wait times.

On the airline front, IndiGo has taken multiple steps to ease passenger distress. The airline completed baggage delivery for all affected flights, ensuring that delayed or rerouted luggage reached passengers promptly. Refunds for cancelled flights up to December 9 have been processed, helping travelers recoup costs without unnecessary delays.

IndiGo’s operational performance, which took a hit during the disruption phase, has shown marked improvement. Airport officials confirmed that the airline’s On-Time Performance (OTP) has rebounded to a full 100% since December 7 at MBB Airport. This improvement signals a return to normalcy in flight operations and reflects IndiGo’s commitment to restoring service reliability.

To further accommodate affected travelers, IndiGo operated an additional flight to Delhi on December 10. This special flight was aimed at reducing passenger backlog and providing faster alternatives for those whose original flights were cancelled. Other airlines operating at Agartala’s airport have not reported any disruptions and are functioning normally, ensuring alternative travel options remain available for passengers.

AAI’s proactive approach has been instrumental during this challenging period. Airport officials emphasized the ongoing coordination between their teams, the airline, ground handling agencies, and other stakeholders to stabilize operations. This collaborative effort is designed to restore and maintain smooth passenger movement through MBB Airport.

Passenger feedback on the airport’s handling of the situation has been largely positive. Many appreciated the quick responses in increasing seating capacity, availability of refreshments, and the continuous sanitation measures. The airport’s commitment to keeping food outlets open and stocked was also well-received by travelers experiencing delays.

In a statement, a senior official from AAI reiterated the airport’s dedication to passenger welfare, stating, “We understand the inconvenience caused by flight cancellations. Our teams are working tirelessly to support passengers and maintain service standards during this period. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and coordinate with IndiGo to ensure seamless travel experiences.”

Looking ahead, the airport management and IndiGo remain vigilant to avoid any further disruptions. Passengers are advised to stay updated with flight schedules through official channels and to contact customer service for assistance regarding cancellations, refunds, or rescheduling.
