Tripura Celebrates International Women’s Day with Tributes, Awards and Health Initiatives

Tripura, the International Women’s Day was celebrated with a series of programmes and events across the state, celebrating women’s accomplishments and reinforcing the message of empowerment and equality. Cultural programmes, awareness drives and felicitation ceremonies were organised in various places, putting the spotlight on women’s achievements and issues concerning their well-being.
At Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala, the Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha, Tripura Pradesh, hosted a special programme to commemorate the day. Addressing the gathering, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury lauded the contributions of women across various fields and felicitated several achievers who have made notable contributions to society.

ter Santana Chakma also attended the event and spoke about the strength, courage and self-reliance of women. Referring to the inspiring stories of “Lakhpati Didis” and other successful women, she said their journeys of struggle and achievement serve as a powerful source of motivation for society.
Another major programme was organised at Rabindra Bhavan where the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura held the 3rd Women’s Health Conclave on the theme “Empowerment through Health Protection.” Nearly 250 healthcare providers participated in the conclave, which focused on a wide range of health issues affecting women.
The discussions covered topics such as adolescent health, heart disease among women, gestational diabetes, chronic kidney ailments, hypertension during pregnancy, menopause-related problems, cancers, respiratory diseases and the importance of breastfeeding. The conclave was inaugurated by Chief Whip of the Tripura Legislative Assembly Kalyani Roy and attended by senior health officials and renowned doctors from Tripura and Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the Tripura Journalists’ Union and the Gender Council jointly organised a programme at the Agartala Press Club to honour women journalists. During the event, 64 working women journalists were felicitated with the “Ananya Sangbad Yoddha Samman.” Journalist Kakali Roy from Dharmanagar received the prestigious “Shaktirupa Samman 2026.”
With support from ILS Hospitals, the programme also included a health awareness segment. Participating journalists were offered blood sugar and eye check-ups and were given the opportunity to consult doctors for medical guidance.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Whip Kalyani Roy in the presence of Pranab Sarkar, president of the Agartala Press Club; Syed Sajjad Ali, president of the All Tripura Journalists’ Union; Chitra Roy, vice-president of the Tripura Journalists’ Union; and gynecologist Mamata Singh from ILS Hospital.
Political organisations also marked the occasion. The Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress organised a programme at the Congress Bhavan, raising issues related to women’s safety, protection of rights and the need to safeguard the secular Constitution, while also calling for political change.
Women’s Day celebrations were also held in district and subdivision headquarters. In Dharmanagar, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission and the North Tripura District Administration organised an event titled “Her Health Heaven” at Vivekananda Shatabarshiki Bhavan.
The programme focused on reproductive health, hygiene and preventive care. It also included exhibitions of products made by self-help groups, interactive sessions and cultural performances such as Hojagiri and Rabindra Nritya.
From the capital city to the districts, International Women’s Day in Tripura was observed with enthusiasm and respect. The programmes not only celebrated women’s achievements but also highlighted issues of health, rights and empowerment, reaffirming the vital role women play as the backbone of society.
