India’s freestyle wrestlers delivered a commanding performance at the U23 Asian Championships in Vietnam as Kumar Mohit and Chandermohan clinched gold medals, helping the national team secure nine medals overall with strong displays across multiple weight categories and boosting hopes for future international success.

India’s freestyle wrestling contingent continued its remarkable run at the U23 Asian Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, delivering another impressive performance on Tuesday by adding multiple medals to the nation’s tally. The Indian wrestlers showcased exceptional dominance, tactical discipline, and fighting spirit on day four of the prestigious continental event, taking the country’s overall freestyle medal count to nine.

The biggest highlights of the day came through Kumar Mohit and Chandermohan, both of whom secured gold medals in their respective categories after outstanding performances against tough international opponents. Their victories further strengthened India’s growing reputation in Asian wrestling and underlined the depth of talent emerging in the country’s freestyle division.

Competing in the 65kg category, Kumar Mohit displayed complete control throughout his gold medal contest against Kyrgyzstan’s Oskonbai A. Abdisamatov. Mohit attacked aggressively from the start and maintained dominance on the mat to register a convincing 12-4 victory. His sharp movement, quick takedowns, and defensive awareness left little room for his opponent to recover, ensuring a comfortable finish at the top of the podium.

Soon after, Chandermohan produced one of the most thrilling matches of the day in the 79kg final. Facing Kazakhstan’s Yerkhan Abil, the Indian wrestler held his nerve in a tense and closely fought contest before sealing a dramatic 7-6 win. The bout remained competitive until the final moments, but Chandermohan’s resilience and tactical execution helped him emerge victorious and claim another gold medal for India.

India also celebrated success in other categories as Deepak secured a silver medal in the 61kg division. In a tightly contested final against Kazakhstan’s Nurdanat Aitanov, both wrestlers finished level at 4-4 on points. However, the result went in favor of the Kazakh wrestler on technical criteria, leaving Deepak with a hard-fought silver medal despite an impressive performance.

Another Indian wrestler named Deepak added to the medal tally by claiming bronze in the 74kg category. He produced a dominant display against Turkmenistan’s Vatan Annairazov and sealed victory with a commanding 10-0 scoreline, reflecting India’s growing strength across multiple freestyle weight divisions.

India’s success had already begun on the previous day when Akshay T Dhere won gold in the 57kg category and Vicky captured another top podium finish in the 97kg class. The continued medal-winning performances over two consecutive days highlighted the consistency and preparation of the Indian squad.

Additional medals came through Kumar Punit, who earned silver in the 92kg category despite suffering a 1-12 defeat against Kyrgyzstan’s Ulukbek Soorombekov in the final. Mor Sachin secured bronze in the 86kg division after a solid 4-1 victory over Boburbek Ruzimboev, while Lacky settled for silver in the 125kg category following a loss to Kazakhstan’s Rizabek Aitmukhan in the championship bout.

Wrestling Federation of India President Sanjay Singh praised the athletes and coaching staff for maintaining consistency throughout the tournament. He highlighted the importance of winning multiple gold medals at a major continental competition and expressed confidence that the Indian wrestlers could continue adding to the tally in the remaining bouts.
