Incessant rains over the past 48 hours have led to severe flooding in Tripura, displacing 310 families across various regions. These families have found temporary refuge in 26 relief camps, with 23 located in South Tripura and 3 in Gomati districts. As conditions started to improve, some of these camps were closed. Currently, 575 people from 132 families remain in 7 active relief camps.

An official report indicates that 120 houses have been damaged due to the heavy rainfall, with 1 house fully destroyed, 37 severely damaged, and 82 partially damaged. The destruction has affected South Tripura, Gomati, Khowai, and Dhalai districts. Farmers have suffered significant losses due to crop damage, and power infrastructure in some areas has also been impacted.

Two landslides were reported, one at Chellagang Mahadev Para and another on the Ghorakhappa to Sabroom road, causing further disruption. Emergency response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Apada Mitra, were swiftly deployed to rescue those affected by the floods. The administration is actively assessing the damage and providing assistance to the affected families.

With more rainfall predicted until Sunday morning, the administration has urged residents to remain vigilant as river levels continue to rise in several areas. The low-lying regions of Sabroom sub-division have been particularly affected, with reports of a man missing in the floodwaters at Manughat. Numerous ponds and agricultural fields have been submerged, and landslides and fallen trees have disrupted communication and power supply in various parts of the sub-division. The Sabroom-Baishnabpur road is in a precarious condition due to landslides.

Despite a lack of rainfall last night, the water level of the Feni River remained above the danger mark of 18.30 meters until 2 am. As a result, 57 families from Magpara were relocated to a relief camp at Dolbari High School, where the administration has arranged food for them. Six relief camps have been set up in the Sabroom sub-division, providing shelter to 351 people from 99 families. These camps are located at Baishnabpur Community Hall, Baishnabpur Class XII School, Dolbari High School, Sabroom Class XII Girls’ School, Thaibungpara JB School, and Prabalpara Anganwadi Center.

In a tragic incident, 65-year-old Monmohan Tripura from Shyampara in Manughat went missing in the floodwaters on Saturday morning. Eyewitnesses reported that he, despite being warned, entered the floodwaters. The disaster management team and NDRF from Belonia searched for him but were unsuccessful. The search operation is set to resume on Sunday.

Sabroom Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shivjyoti Dutta confirmed that the disaster management team was active throughout the night. Due to the Feni River’s high water level, 57 families were moved from Mogpara to relief camps. Dutta also noted that four relief camps were closed on Saturday morning as the water level receded, with the remaining two expected to close on Sunday. The damage assessment is ongoing, and comprehensive information is expected within the next 2-3 days.
