In a remarkable archaeological find, laborers working in Bhuiyapara, under the Deoracherra ADC Village of Gournagar Block, unearthed an ancient stone idol beneath the soil on Tuesday. The discovery quickly became a center of attraction, drawing the attention and curiosity of the local community.

As news of the idol’s discovery spread like wildfire on social media, large crowds began flocking to the site. Villagers were seen offering prayers with incense sticks and candles, speculating that the idol could represent deities such as Brahma, Ganesh, or Shiva. Early assessments by experts suggest that the statue could be several centuries old, adding to the intrigue surrounding the find.

Local authorities swiftly responded to the discovery. Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pradip Sarkar, Unakoti Archaeological Survey of India Conservator Assistant Abhishek Kumar, Gournagar Block BDO Pranay Das, and Deoracherra ADC head Umesh Nama, all inspected the site to evaluate the significance of the find.

SDM Pradip Sarkar noted that the idol appeared to be made of stone and could hold substantial historical significance. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is now coordinating with higher authorities to authenticate and determine the origin of the idol. For the time being, the relic remains under secure observation to prevent any damage or tampering.

Proximity to Historical Landmarks

Interestingly, Bhuiyapara is located just three kilometers from the renowned Unakoti tourism site and a mere 1.5 kilometers from Shivbari village, which is home to Asia’s largest stone Shivalinga. Officials are speculating that the newly unearthed idol may share historical connections with these significant landmarks, further enhancing its cultural and historical value.

To ensure the idol’s preservation and to facilitate further examination, BDO Pranay Das oversaw the relocation of the artifact to the Unakoti District Magistrate’s office. Here, the idol has continued to attract large crowds, eager to witness this ancient relic first-hand.

Impact on the Local Community

The discovery has had a profound impact on the local community. The influx of visitors and devotees to Bhuiyapara has not only heightened interest in the village but also sparked a renewed sense of pride and curiosity about the region’s historical and cultural heritage. Many locals are hopeful that the discovery will lead to increased recognition and potential development of the area as a significant archaeological and tourist site.

Authorities’ Statements

SDM Pradip Sarkar emphasized the potential historical importance of the idol and assured that every effort would be made to determine its origins and significance. The ASI’s involvement underscores the gravity of the find, and the organization’s expertise will be crucial in unlocking the secrets held by this ancient artifact.

The idol’s discovery and subsequent examination are expected to shed light on the region’s history and may provide valuable insights into the cultural and religious practices of the past. As the investigation progresses, the local community and authorities alike await further revelations about this captivating archaeological marvel.
