DGP Visits Unakoti District : High-Level Meeting on Law & Order, Anti-Drug Strategy
In an attempt to strengthening law and order and intensifying the battle against drug abuse, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura Anurag, conducted a high-level review meeting at the District Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Kailashahar, headquarters of the Unakoti district.

This marks Anurag’s first official visit to Unakoti since assuming office as the head of the Tripura police force, although he noted that he had previously visited the district multiple times in other capacities.
The closed-door meeting brought together a range of senior police officials and security administrators. Among those present were Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rati Ranjan Debnath, SP of Unakoti and North Tripura districts Abinash Rai, Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of various police stations, and other top-ranking personnel from different law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
The core agenda of the meeting revolved around two pressing issues: the maintenance of law and order across the district, and the advancement of the government’s anti-drug campaign — an initiative that has become a cornerstone of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s governance framework.
In a press briefing following the meeting, Anurag interacted with journalists and shared key takeaways from the visit. “This tour is a part of our broader mission to reinforce security and crack down on drug-related crimes as envisioned by the Chief Minister’s dream of a ‘Drug-Free Tripura’,” said Anurag. He emphasized that the campaign is not limited to policing alone but is a collective social responsibility.
“Maintaining law and order is not the sole duty of the police. Every citizen has a role to play. We appeal to people from all walks of life to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in creating a safer, healthier society,” DGP Anurag

Anurag also highlighted that the state has seen a rise in conviction rates, which he sees as a sign of improved investigative efficiency and judicial coordination. “Currently, more than 30 percent of accused individuals are being convicted. This is a positive trend and a result of our intensified efforts in evidence collection and prosecution,” he stated.
During the meeting, detailed strategies were reportedly discussed to tackle local drug trafficking networks, improve intelligence sharing between police stations, and build community-based vigilance mechanisms. Sources indicated that actionable plans are being chalked out, including increased patrolling in sensitive zones, the use of surveillance technology, and coordination with central enforcement agencies to intercept interstate drug routes.

Anurag’s visit comes at a time when Unakoti, like many other districts in Tripura, is facing growing challenges related to narcotics smuggling and associated criminal activities. In recent years, Tripura has become a transit route for drug trafficking due to its proximity to international borders.
While Anurag did not publicly confirm any immediate administrative reshuffles or policy changes, his unannounced arrival and the nature of the high-level discussions have led to speculation in administrative circles that major decisions may soon follow.
Following the Unakoti review, Anurag is scheduled to visit Dharmanagar in North Tripura. He will then proceed to Kanchanpur, where he is expected to meet with personnel of the 13th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR). This part of the visit underscores the administration’s focus on boosting troop morale and strengthening internal security apparatus in the region.
The visit has been widely seen as a proactive step by the state police leadership to decentralize monitoring and accelerate grassroots-level enforcement — a move likely to impact policing outcomes in the coming months.
As Tripura continues its battle against drugs and organized crime, such high-level interventions are expected to play a critical role in realigning the state’s security priorities and public safety objectives.
