Anurag becomes new DGP . Anurag who had been DGP Intelligence of Tripura was given the charge of entire Tripura Police as DGP ( Head of Police Force) with immediate effect.
The incumbent DGP (HoPF) Amitabh Ranjan was supposed to retire on May 31 next. It is not yet clear why 15 days before his retirement the new DGP was chosen although as the senior most officer- Tripura cadre IPS of 1994- presently serving in the state had Anurag’s promotion to the postion already been on the card.
A notification from the government said, in the interest of public service, the Governor, in consultation with the Union Public Service Commission, is pleased to appoint Shri Anurag, IPS (TR:1994), DGP (Int.), Government of Tripura to the post of Director General of Police (HoPF), Government of Tripura in the Pay Scale at Level-17 of the Pay Matrix with immediate effect and until further orders.
Anurag is likely to take charge within two days. It is not yet clear where Amitabh Ranjan would be posted for the next 15 days. In all likelihood he would be given some charge in New Delhi.
Anurag who spent most of his career as a police man in Tripura and CBI, and a stint in BPR&D is known as a strict officer.
Anurag is a Post Graduate in Food Technology from CFTRI, Mysore. He also holds Masters Degree in Police Management from Osmania University and Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Crimes from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner from ACFE, USA.
He held almost all the senior police positions in Tripura . He served as SDPO, Longtharai Valley and District SP of undivided West and South Tripura Districts, apart from serving as Superintendent of Police, Special Branch and AIGP (HQr) During 2003-04, he also served in UN Mission in Kosovo. During 2005 to 2013, he was on central deputation and served as SP and DIG in CBI. On return from central deputation, he served as IGP (Law & Order) Tripura from 2013 to 2016. During 2016 to 2023, he again went on central deputation and served as IG, Research & Correctional Administration, BPR&D and IG (Pers) in CISF, besides Joint Director and Additional Director in CBI. Shri Anurag has also served as Chairman of SIT (1984 Anti-Sikh Riots) under Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. He has been conferred with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
On September 18, 2023, Anurag assumed the charge of Addl. Director General of Police, Tripura and subsequently posted as Addl. Director General of Police (Law & Order), Tripura September 30, 2023. Anurag was promoted and posted as Director General of Police (intelligence) with additional charge of Addl. Director General of Police (Law & Order ) 1st January 1 2024
