CPM held a condolence meeting in Agartala in memory of veteran party leader Bijan Dhar who passed away a week ago.

Dhar died in less than one month from the death of another top communist leader Gautam Das.

The deaths of the two senior leaders is an irreparable loss for CPI-M and leftists movement not only in Tripura but also in the whole country, said former Chief Minister and CPI(M) politburo member Manik Sarkar.

He said, in the present situation of Tripura, the deaths of communist leaders like Dhar and Das is a challenge for the party; they always worked for the party with devotion by maintaining the communist ideology.

“Their absence will be felt all around and creation of leaders like them will take a long time,” Sarkar said while addressing the condolence meet in memory of Bijan Dhar at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Monday.

Sarkar urged the party leaders and workers at all levels to reach out the people at grass root with the burning issues and educate them about the communist ideology. He asked the party men to take the responsibility for facing the challenge thrown by the deaths of the two leaders.

Meanwhile, Dhar died on October 12 last and CPI(M) State Secretary Gautam Das died of post COVID-19 complications in Kolkata on September 16 last. Both were 70.

Among the leaders, CPI-M politburo members- Prakash Karat and Biman Bose were present in the remembrance meeting.
