Tripura govt spent over Rs 2.08 crore on Fast Track Special Courts for rape and POCSO cases in 2025–26, with 101 cases disposed of and 235 matters remaining sub-judice, according to data presented in the state Legislative Assembly.
The Tripura government spent Rs 2,08,94,636 during the 2025–26 financial year to support Fast Track Special Courts dealing with rape and cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, according to data presented before the state Legislative Assembly.
The figures were provided by the Law Department in response to an Assembly question concerning litigation and court cases. The government expenditure was directed towards supporting the functioning of Fast Track Special Courts tasked with handling sensitive sexual offence cases and facilitating their speedy trial and disposal.
According to the Assembly data, the Fast Track Special Courts disposed of 101 cases during the 2025–26 financial year. At the same time, 235 cases remain sub-judice, indicating that a significant number of rape and POCSO-related matters are still pending before the courts.
The expenditure of more than Rs 2 crore highlights the financial resources being allocated to the specialised judicial mechanism, while the number of pending cases reflects the continuing workload faced by these courts. Fast Track Special Courts have been established to provide focused judicial attention to cases involving serious sexual offences and reduce delays in their adjudication.

The Assembly replies also outlined steps being taken by the government to address delays in certain long-pending cases involving the state. According to the Law Department, specific cases are identified and referred to Lok Adalats with the objective of facilitating quicker disposal.
The latest Assembly data thus provide an overview of government expenditure and judicial workload involving specialised courts for rape and POCSO matters.
