The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has raised apprehensions of potential disruptions during the counting of votes on June 4, alleging conspiracies aimed at destabilizing the process.
In a press communiqué issued on Monday, the opposition party expressed concerns over the security arrangements for the counting day and urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the State Election Commission to intervene promptly.
CPI(M)’s state delegation, led by Secretary Jitendra Choudhury along with Narayan Kar and Manik Dey, conveyed their worries to the CEO, highlighting the need for stringent security measures to ensure peaceful and fair counting. The party cited instances of alleged rigging and voter suppression during the 18th Lok Sabha elections in Tripura, emphasizing the importance of impartiality and transparency in the electoral process.
“The 18th Lok Sabha elections in Tripura ended with widespread rigging, with voters prevented from coming to polling stations and agents of opposition political parties being beaten up,” stated the press release. “Conspiracies to disrupt the environment at the counting center have already begun,” it added.
Assurances were reportedly made by state election officials to enhance security at the counting centers and ensure the safety of counting agents, particularly those representing opposition parties. CPI(M) reiterated its demand for a peaceful and smooth completion of the vote-counting process.
