The Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), dispatched by the Ministry of Home Affairs, conducted an extensive on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected areas in Tripura, meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at the Civil Secretariat on Friday. The central delegation, which arrived in the state on August 28, assured the Chief Minister that a detailed report on the flood situation and the extensive damage caused by it would soon be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, paving the way for prompt assistance and support.
The IMCT, responding to a request from the state government, inspected flood-affected regions in South Tripura, Gomati, Sepahijala, and Khowai districts over the past two days. The Chief Minister, in a social media post, expressed gratitude for the swift response from the central government. “Grateful for the prompt response and support by the Government of India. This report will help facilitate further assistance and support for the flood-affected people of Tripura,” Dr. Saha stated.

They were accompanied by Khowai District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhijit Chakrabarty, and other local officials. The team visited the Jamira para in Paschim Sonatala GP of Khowai Subdivision, where over 30 hectares of agriculture, including transplanted paddy and standing horticulture crops, were reported damaged.

The Khowai district administration highlighted the visit on social media, emphasizing the extent of agricultural losses and the urgent need for relief measures.

The situation is extremely saddening, and the losses are heavy due to the floods. We will present a detailed report to both the state and central governments after completing our ground visits.”
In addition to Khowai district, the central team visited Sepahijala district on Friday. On Thursday, the delegates, divided into two teams, conducted assessments in Gomati and South Tripura districts, where they evaluated the severe impact of the floods on local infrastructure and agriculture.
