Indian authorities have detained Alamgir Sheikh, a 34-year-old Bangladeshi tourist, and cancelled his visa due to his anti-India social media posts. Sheikh, from Patgram, Lalmonirhat, traveled to India on September 3 on a tourist visa. According to Ahsan Habib, the immigration police officer at Burimari land port, Sheikh’s live social media broadcast contained inflammatory comments against India, including a call for the division of Indian states.

The posts, made during Sheikh’s visit to India, drew the attention of Indian security officials, leading to his detention at the Changrabandha immigration checkpoint on Sunday evening. Following his interrogation, Indian authorities canceled Sheikh’s visa and handed him over to Burimari immigration police for deportation.

Sheikh’s Facebook posts included controversial statements made from Agra’s Taj Mahal, where he expressed a desire for parts of India to be returned to Bangladesh and praised separatist sentiments. This incident underscores the sensitive nature of national security and the vigilance of Indian authorities regarding inflammatory content.
