Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma assures no petrol, diesel, or LPG shortage in the state. Urges citizens to avoid panic buying as fuel supply remains stable with strong coordination between state government and oil companies.
In a bid to dispel growing concerns over fuel availability, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday assured citizens that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG in the state. Addressing reporters, the Chief Minister emphasized that fuel supplies across Assam remain stable and sufficient, urging people not to engage in panic buying.
Sarma categorically stated that the availability of essential petroleum products is adequate and there is no reason for alarm. “There is sufficient availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG in Assam. There is no fear of any shortage,” he said, seeking to calm public anxiety that had surfaced in certain areas due to rumors and misinformation.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the Government of India has clarified the situation at the national level. During a recent all-party meeting, the Centre confirmed that there is no disruption in the supply of petrol and diesel anywhere in the country. Sarma reiterated this point to reinforce confidence among the public, noting that both state and central authorities are aligned in their assessment of the situation.
Concerns regarding fuel availability had led to increased footfall at petrol pumps in some parts of Assam, with reports of people rushing to stock up on fuel. Officials have warned that such behavior could create unnecessary pressure on local supply chains, potentially leading to temporary shortages despite adequate overall stock.
Appealing to citizens to act responsibly, Sarma urged people to avoid hoarding fuel. “I would request people not to rush to fuel stations and not to stock petrol and diesel excessively,” he said. He further stressed that panic buying could disrupt the normal distribution system and create artificial scarcity in specific locations.
According to officials, the supply chain for petroleum products in Assam and the broader Northeast region remains robust. Oil marketing companies are continuing their operations without any interruption, ensuring regular delivery of petrol, diesel, and LPG across the state. Authorities have maintained that logistics networks are functioning smoothly, and there are no issues affecting the transportation or distribution of fuel.
The state government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with oil companies to maintain uninterrupted supply. Officials are also keeping a close watch on market trends and consumer behavior to prevent any undue disruptions caused by misinformation or panic-driven actions.
Experts believe that rumors and unverified reports often trigger sudden spikes in demand, which can strain local infrastructure temporarily. However, they emphasize that such situations are avoidable if the public relies on official communication and avoids spreading or acting upon false information.
Reiterating his appeal, Sarma urged people to remain calm and trust official updates. He also cautioned against the spread of rumors, which can exacerbate public anxiety and lead to unnecessary disruptions. “There is no need to worry about fuel availability in Assam,” he assured.
