Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP and LDF in Kerala, calls alliance ‘CJP’, unveils welfare schemes for women and youth ahead of Assembly elections, intensifying political battle and boosting Congress campaign strategy in crucial electoral contest.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday sharpened his political attack in Kerala, accusing both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) of operating in coordination ahead of the crucial April 9 Assembly elections. Labeling the alleged understanding as the “CJP” or Communist Janata Party, Rahul claimed that the two rivals were covertly aligned to weaken the Congress-led opposition.

Addressing a massive public rally in Kozhikode via video conferencing, Rahul Gandhi was forced to cancel his physical appearance due to the sudden hospitalization of his mother, Sonia Gandhi, on Tuesday night. Despite his absence, the Congress MP delivered a strong and combative message, setting the tone for the party’s intensified campaign in the state.

In his address, Rahul alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “spared” Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan from central agency scrutiny, while opposition leaders across India continued to face investigations and pressure. This remark is likely to further escalate political tensions in Kerala, where electoral battles are traditionally intense and closely fought.

The Congress party, under the banner of the United Democratic Front (UDF), has been consistently positioning the upcoming election as a direct contest against both the BJP and the CPI(M)-led LDF. Rahul Gandhi’s “CJP” remark is seen as a strategic move to consolidate anti-incumbency sentiment while questioning the independence of governance under the Left administration.

Beyond political criticism, Rahul Gandhi also unveiled a comprehensive set of welfare guarantees aimed at key voter groups, including women, youth, and economically vulnerable sections. These promises are expected to form the backbone of the Congress campaign in Kerala.

Among the major घोषणाएँ, Rahul pledged free bus travel for all women on state-run KSRTC buses, a move aimed at easing financial burdens and enhancing mobility. He also announced a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 for college-going girl students, highlighting the party’s focus on education and women empowerment.

In addition, the Congress leader promised to increase welfare pensions to ₹3,000 per month, a significant hike intended to support senior citizens and disadvantaged communities. Another key proposal includes a comprehensive health insurance scheme offering coverage of up to ₹25 lakh per household, which the party plans to name after former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, a respected figure in Kerala politics.

Targeting youth unemployment, Rahul Gandhi also proposed interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh to encourage entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities among young people. This initiative is aimed at addressing one of the most pressing issues facing Kerala’s educated youth.

Political analysts believe that Rahul Gandhi’s dual strategy—combining sharp political attacks with strong welfare promises—reflects the Congress party’s attempt to regain lost ground in a state where the LDF has maintained power for the past decade. The emphasis on social welfare schemes is designed to appeal to a broad voter base while reinforcing the party’s pro-people image.

As the campaign enters its final phase, the battle lines in Kerala are becoming increasingly defined. With the Congress intensifying its offensive and the ruling LDF defending its governance record, the upcoming election is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest that could significantly influence the state’s political landscape.
