The All India Krishak Sabha (AIKS) has alleged of uninterrupted post-poll violence in the state of Tripura and has decided to report it to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). In a press conference held at the AIKS state committee office in Agartala on Wednesday, Vijoo Krishnan, the General Secretary of AIKS, stated that several incidents of post-poll violence were reported from various parts of the state, causing hurdles in the livelihoods of the common man. Attacks on rubber plantations, agriculture fields, water bodies, and other essential infrastructure have been reported.
Krishnan informed that a 15-point charter of demands was approved by the state committee members during the meeting. The demands include initiating compensations for the farmers of the state, who incurred hefty losses due to the damage of the agricultural crops and other farming by miscreants. Other demands included stopping illegal occupation of agricultural lands and fish farming ponds, providing adequate amounts of fertilizers and pesticides on a subsidized rate for the farmers, resumption of paddy farming under the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method, ensuring 100-day mandays in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and Tripura Urban Employment Program (TUEP) and introducing schemes in agriculture-related works.
Krishnan also demanded that the government should pass the 125th amendment bill of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in the parliament and include Kok-Borok language in the 8th schedule of the constitution.
Pabitra Kar, the AIKS state committee general secretary and former MLA, was present during the press conference. Krishnan informed that they will submit a detailed report of the post-poll violence to the NHRC and demanded that the government should take immediate action to address the situation.
