Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha recalled the horrors of Partition at Agartala’s Partition Horrors Remembrance Day programme, urging Gen-Z to learn history, honour sacrifices, respect the Tricolour and strengthen national unity, harmony, patriotism and commitment towards building a strong, united and developed India.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday recalled the painful memories of the Partition of India and urged the younger generation, particularly Gen-Z, to learn about the tragic chapter of history and understand the sacrifices and suffering endured by millions during the period.
Dr. Saha attended a programme organised at the Rabindra Auditorium of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in Agartala to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The programme focused on remembering the victims of Partition and highlighting the importance of national unity, harmony, patriotism and the integrity of the country.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said August 15 is associated with the joy of Independence, while August 14 reminds the nation of the immense horrors of Partition. He said the division of the country resulted in an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy, with millions of people losing their homes, loved ones and livelihoods and being forced to endure immense suffering.
Dr. Saha said remembering the painful history is not merely an exercise in recalling the past but also an opportunity to strengthen the nation’s commitment towards unity and harmony. He emphasised that the sacrifices of countless people during the freedom struggle and the difficult period surrounding Partition should continue to inspire citizens.
Referring to the national flag, the Chief Minister said every colour of the Tricolour represents the sacrifice, courage and patriotism of countless freedom fighters who dedicated their lives to the nation. He stressed that Indians share a deep emotional and emotional bond with the Tricolour and called for greater respect towards the national flag.
He also highlighted the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, saying the initiative seeks to honour the freedom fighters and strengthen patriotic feelings among citizens. He urged people to participate in such initiatives with a sense of responsibility and pride.
A key focus of the Chief Minister’s address was the younger generation. Dr. Saha called upon Gen-Z to develop a deeper understanding of India’s history and cultivate a stronger sense of patriotism. He urged students to learn about the horrors of Partition, the suffering of displaced families and the sacrifices made by people during one of the most painful periods in the country’s history.
The Chief Minister said awareness of history is essential for ensuring that future generations understand the value of peace, unity and national integrity. He encouraged young people to draw lessons from the past while contributing towards the creation of a stronger and more developed India.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sadar District organisation also observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in Agartala through a special programme and exhibition. BJP state president Debroy recalled the immense suffering caused by Partition and paid tribute to those who lost their lives, homes and families during the historic tragedy.
Debroy described Partition as a deeply painful chapter that continues to remain a lasting wound in India’s history. He said countless people were suddenly forced to become refugees after losing their relatives, homes and possessions.
The programme served as an occasion to remember the victims and sacrifices associated with Partition while reinforcing the message of national unity. Leaders and participants paid tribute to those who suffered during the upheaval and called for lessons from history to guide the nation’s future.

The observance in Agartala ultimately conveyed a message of remembrance, patriotism and unity, with the Chief Minister urging citizens to preserve the values of harmony and national integrity while working towards a strong, united and developed India.
