Tripura is strengthening its start-up ecosystem with T-RISE Portal, Startup One IDs, industry partnerships and initiatives aimed at fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and scalable businesses.
Tripura is making steady progress in the start-up sector and has been recognised as a ‘Leader’ in the Start-up India Ranking, Information and Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said on Monday, highlighting the state government’s efforts to create a stronger ecosystem for innovation, entrepreneurship and employment generation.
The minister made the remarks while inaugurating a one-day workshop titled “Building a Unicorn in Tripura” at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala. The workshop was organised by the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura, in collaboration with T-Hub, with the objective of encouraging young entrepreneurs to develop innovative ideas and build scalable enterprises.
During the programme, the government launched the T-RISE Portal (Tripura Registry and Integration for Startup Ecosystem) and handed over ceremonial Startup One ID Cards. The initiatives are aimed at creating a more integrated and enabling environment for start-ups by bringing entrepreneurs, institutions and support mechanisms onto a common platform.

The event also witnessed the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Government of Tripura and HDFC Bank, Amazon, and Zoho for Startups. The partnerships are expected to create new opportunities in areas including start-up banking, e-commerce, market access and cloud-based business solutions, providing emerging entrepreneurs with greater access to financial, technological and commercial support.
Speaking about the state’s start-up landscape, Singha Roy said Tripura currently has 80 functional start-ups and eight incubators. He also pointed to the significant rise in the number of women-led start-ups in the state in recent years, citing Start-up India data as an indication of growing participation in entrepreneurship.
The minister said Tripura launched its Start-up Ecosystem Plan and Start-up Scheme in 2019 with the objective of supporting IT-based enterprises, developing innovative skills and creating employment opportunities. According to him, the government has continued to introduce measures aimed at strengthening the ecosystem and encouraging more young people to consider entrepreneurship as a career opportunity.

Singha Roy emphasised that the “Building a Unicorn in Tripura” workshop was not limited to discussions about the existing start-up scenario. Instead, it sought to inspire young people to think beyond small-scale ventures and develop companies capable of generating employment, encouraging innovation and competing in national and global markets.
He said start-ups should not be considered merely as businesses, but as an important driving force for strengthening the state’s economy and creating employment. Referring to India’s expanding start-up ecosystem under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said Tripura is working to become an integral part of the country’s entrepreneurial growth story.
The State Innovation Mission, launched in Agartala in February 2026, is another key initiative in this direction. The mission seeks to create an environment where innovative ideas and technology can be brought together and transformed into viable businesses.

The workshop also featured industry insights and a Unicorn Success Story delivered by the Vice President of Skyroot Aerospace. The session provided emerging entrepreneurs with an opportunity to learn from a successful technology-driven enterprise and encouraged participants to think ambitiously about building scalable businesses.
Other speakers at the event included Kiran Gitte, Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Prashant Kumar Goyal, Secretary of the IT Department.
An IT Department official said the MoUs signed with the private bank and other organisations would help provide financial and technical assistance to small start-ups in Tripura. The partnerships are expected to improve access to resources and strengthen support for emerging entrepreneurs.
