About half of displaced Brus totaling 3,232 families-already resettled

Out of 37,000 The state government had identified as many as displaced 37,136 Bru persons belonging to 6,959 families for resettlement in Tripura following a quadripartite agreement signed between the Centre, Government of Tripura, Government of Mizoram and Bru leaders.  Till date out of targeted  6,959 families a total of 3,232 Bru families could have been relocated in eight locations.

Puneet Agarwal , Principal Secretary  to the Revenue Department in a press conference said, the Bru families were supposed to be rehabilitated in 12 new cluster locations as identified by the Tripura government. The time line was next August 31. However the Bru leaders submitted a list of 4,473 families so far. They did not submit the list for remaining 2486 families.

Agarwal said, the state government had identified 12 locations — Bongaphapara (L.T. Valley) and Haduklaupara (Ambassa) in Dhalai district, Kaskau (in-situ) of Ambassa and Wainbukcherra- Ranipara of Panisagar in North Tripura, West Kalajhari (Amarpur) in Gomati, Bhandarima- Pushporampara of Kanchanpur, Hamsapara (in-situ) and Khakchang (in-situ) of Panisagar in North Tripura, Ultacherra of Gandacherra in Dhalai district, Gachirampara of Kanchanpur in North Tripura, Shilacherra of Karbook in Gomati and Kala Lawgang of Santirbazar in South Tripura for the cluster villages meant for the Brus. However, at present in eight locations the resettlement was going on.  Some more areas would soon be. Finalized.

An ICA press release said at present massive infrastructure development activities were going on for making the new Bru settlement suitable and for making them easily accessible for the administration. The infrastructures included among others development and leveling of land, roads network ctreations installation of DTW & SBDTWs, extension of new power lines , Solar Street Lights, construction of common shelter houses with common kitchen, construction of Common toilet Blocks, construction of dwelling houses, construction of individual toilet for each family, setting up schools, AWCs and Health Sub-Centres etc.

For the resettlement of the Brus displaced from Mizoram the Union government had already announced a comprehensive package.. The rehabilitated Br families would get one-time Financial Assistance of Rs 4,00,000 per family as Fixed Deposit for 2 years, a piece of land in clusters measuring 30×40 feet for construction of a house, house building assistance of Rs.1,50,000 per family in three equal instalments, Monthly Cash Assistance of Rs.5,000 per family per month for a period of two years through DBT, free ration for two years from the date of resettlement in Tripura as per the existing norms, free transportation to move from present temporary camps to the location of resettlement in Tripura, Aadhaar Card and Ration Card, PRTC and ST certificates to the resettled Brus with inclusion of their names in Electoral Rolls, benefits of centrally sponsored schemes at par with other villagers and Eklavya Model Residential School resettlement zones.
