It was an end of 26 days long agonized wait and a sense of unbearable uncertainty as Faysal Ahmed ( 13) ultimately returned home from his captivity in Bangladesh on Wednesday. He had been abducted by a gang of Bangladeshi smugglers from his residence at extreme border of Najurpora in Boxanagar on July 31 last. He was held hostage first at Comilla and then shifted to Dhaka. At first the abductors had demanded Rs 20 lkh for his safe release, but ultimately following some negotiations and understanding he was released without any ransom payment.

His abduction was actually a fall out of business rivalry of two gangs of smugglers active in either side of Indo-Bangladesh border.

Sources said, some of Faisal’s relatives –who were also smugglers failed to deliverthe Gold biscuits of about Rs 1.20 crore to the intended Indian counterparts. The gold somehow went ‘missing’ and Faisal’s relatives also could not pay back the dues to the Bangladeshi smugglers led by one Nasir Hussain.

After somedays of his abduction Faisal managed to give the captors a slip in Comilla. He fled from the hideout but got once again caught. It was then he was taken to Dhaka. However, the abductors treated him well and even allowed him to talk to his parents over phone.

Ultimately as the negotiation succeeded he was brought back to Comilla and then allowed to go. This time Faisal came straight to a police station and narrated his story. He was produced to the District court and following the court order he was handed over to the BSF by Bangladesh border guards over a flag meeting.

Faisal’s father Abul Kalam accepted his son from the BSF personnel.
