Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha stressed greater awareness, stronger coordination and sustained efforts to protect the rights, safety and welfare of women and children, while calling for education, skill development, cyber safety, child protection and economic empowerment initiatives across the state.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has stressed the need for greater social awareness, stronger institutional coordination and sustained efforts to ensure the rights, safety, welfare and empowerment of women and children across the state. He said building a safe, dignified and empowered society would require not only administrative action but also a positive transformation in social attitudes.

Dr. Saha made the remarks while chairing consecutive meetings with the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Tripura Commission for Women at the state Secretariat on Thursday. During the meetings, the Chief Minister reviewed various issues concerning the protection and welfare of women and children and assessed the initiatives being undertaken by the respective commissions.

The Chief Minister called for a comprehensive approach to addressing serious social challenges, including child marriage, substance abuse, cybercrime and crimes against women. He emphasized that government measures alone would not be sufficient to tackle these issues and urged authorities to strengthen awareness campaigns at the grassroots level.

Dr. Saha suggested organizing regular seminars, workshops and awareness programmes to educate people about the rights and safety of women and children. He also proposed using creative platforms such as theatre to communicate important messages effectively and reach communities at the grassroots.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of identifying problems faced by women and children at the local level and providing appropriate counselling whenever required. He also called for the involvement of prominent citizens, educationists, social workers, intellectuals and members of women’s self-help groups in awareness initiatives.

According to the Chief Minister, participation from different sections of society could make awareness campaigns more effective and help create a broader social movement for the protection of women and children. Sustained programmes against child marriage and substance abuse were particularly emphasized during the discussions.

Cyber safety also received special attention, with the Chief Minister stressing the need to increase awareness, particularly among women, about the risks associated with cybercrime and online activities. He called for stronger efforts to educate people about digital safety and responsible use of technology.

Dr. Saha also reviewed the condition of children staying in various homes across Tripura. He emphasized that children living in such institutions must receive proper educational opportunities along with skill development and other forms of support. Such measures, he said, would help them become self-reliant and establish themselves confidently in society in the future.

The Chief Minister also placed strong emphasis on women’s empowerment. He said ensuring the safety of women must go hand in hand with expanding access to education, skill development and economic opportunities. Skill training, he noted, can play an important role in helping women achieve economic self-reliance and participate more actively in the social and economic mainstream.

At the beginning of the meeting, Special Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tapan Kumar Das presented a visual report on the activities of the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The presentation highlighted the commission’s visits to schools and homes, counselling services, efforts to prevent child marriage and various awareness programmes.

Representatives of the Tripura State Commission for Women also briefed the meeting on initiatives related to women’s rights, safety and empowerment. They also presented the commission’s future action plan and discussed measures aimed at strengthening protection and support mechanisms for women across the state.
