Agartala is set to host the ‘Maayer Gomon’ Durga Puja carnival, featuring colourful tableaux, artistic idols, cultural performances and social messages. Chief Minister Manik Saha will inaugurate the event, with foreign delegates and local artists expected to participate.

Preparations are complete for the much-awaited ‘Maayer Gomon’ Durga Puja carnival, scheduled to be held in Agartala on Friday, bringing together devotion, artistic creativity, cultural heritage and social awareness in a grand celebration of Tripura’s festive traditions.

The carnival will be inaugurated by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at a ceremony in front of MTB Girls’ Higher Secondary School. Members of the state cabinet, senior government officials and other distinguished guests are also expected to attend the inaugural programme.

The event is expected to bring together various Durga Puja committees, cultural organisations, artists, performers and visitors for a colourful procession showcasing the artistic and cultural richness of the state. The carnival aims to provide a common platform for participating puja committees to present their creative work and celebrate the spirit of Durga Puja through traditional and contemporary expressions.

Speaking about the preparations, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder said that several puja organisers and clubs would participate in the programme. He highlighted the carnival’s role in bringing different committees together and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their artistic creations before a wider audience.

The ‘Maayer Gomon’ carnival is being organised as more than a religious procession. It is intended to serve as a cultural platform where Sanatan traditions, Tripura’s heritage and contemporary social messages can be presented together. Through elaborate tableaux, beautifully designed idols and thematic displays, participating committees are expected to highlight different aspects of society, culture and community life.

Alongside traditional elements associated with Durga Puja, the carnival will emphasise themes such as social harmony, unity, environmental awareness and responsible citizenship. These presentations are expected to add a broader social dimension to the celebrations while preserving the religious and cultural significance of the festival.

The colourful procession and accompanying cultural programmes are likely to create a festive atmosphere across Agartala, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to experience Durga Puja celebrations in a distinctive format. The event is also expected to attract people from different communities and backgrounds, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the festival.

A notable feature of this year’s carnival will be the expected participation of foreign delegates and representatives of various embassies. Their presence is anticipated to give the event an international dimension and provide an opportunity to introduce Tripura’s cultural traditions, artistic achievements and festive celebrations to visitors from other countries.

The participation of international representatives is also expected to encourage cultural exchange and strengthen Agartala’s profile as a destination for large-scale cultural events. Organisers hope that the carnival will demonstrate how traditional celebrations can bring together cultural heritage, artistic expression and community participation.

Local artists and cultural performers are expected to play an important role in the programme. Performances by artists from across Tripura will add colour and energy to the celebrations while giving local talent an opportunity to showcase its abilities before a large audience.

From traditional performances to contemporary cultural presentations, the participation of local artists is expected to reflect the diversity of Tripura’s cultural identity. The carnival will also provide an opportunity for performers to connect with visitors and contribute to the preservation and promotion of the state’s artistic traditions.

The Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department has made elaborate arrangements for the successful organisation of the event. Preparations include coordination with participating puja committees, arrangements for cultural programmes and attention to the overall presentation and festive atmosphere.

Officials and organisers have also undertaken logistical preparations to facilitate the participation of dignitaries, foreign delegates, artists and members of the public. These arrangements are intended to ensure that the carnival proceeds in an organised manner while maintaining the grandeur expected of a major cultural celebration.

As Agartala prepares for the event, the city is expected to witness a vibrant display of decorations, artistic installations and cultural performances. The carnival will bring together people from different sections of society in a shared celebration of tradition, creativity and community spirit.

Last year’s ‘Maayer Gomon’ carnival brought together faith, tradition, art, culture and social awareness in a colourful celebration of Tripura’s cultural identity. It also marked the emotional farewell to Goddess Durga, a central moment in the Durga Puja festivities.

This year’s event is expected to continue that tradition, highlighting the artistic achievements of puja committees while promoting cultural exchange and social unity. With preparations in place and participation expected from local cultural groups and international representatives, the ‘Maayer Gomon’ carnival is set to be a major attraction in Agartala’s Durga Puja celebrations.
