Unakoti district administration will launch a special MR vaccination drive for children up to 10 years amid regional measles-rubella concerns. Authorities urged parents to complete immunisation and seek immediate medical care if fever and skin rashes appear in children.
A special measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign will soon be launched across Unakoti district to ensure that every child up to 10 years of age receives proper immunisation amid growing concerns over the regional infection situation.
The announcement was made on Saturday during a press conference by Mega Jain, who said that the overall situation in the district remains stable and under control. However, the administration has decided to take preventive measures without delay due to the district’s proximity to the international border and the infection scenario reported in neighbouring Bangladesh.
According to the district administration, several children in different parts of the district were found to have missed their scheduled MR vaccination doses. The upcoming special drive aims to identify such children and provide immediate immunisation coverage to prevent any possible outbreak of measles or rubella in the region.
Officials said health workers and local authorities would jointly conduct awareness campaigns and vaccination activities in both urban and rural areas. The administration is expected to coordinate with schools, anganwadi centres, and healthcare institutions to ensure maximum participation during the drive.
The District Magistrate appealed to parents and guardians not to panic, emphasising that the situation is currently under observation and there is no immediate cause for alarm. At the same time, she urged families to remain cautious and responsible regarding children’s health.
Residents have been advised to immediately visit the nearest health centre if any child develops symptoms such as fever accompanied by skin rashes, which are considered common warning signs of measles or rubella infection.

Health authorities believe that timely vaccination and public awareness are essential to preventing the spread of infectious diseases, especially in border districts vulnerable to cross-border health risks. The special MR vaccination campaign is expected to strengthen child healthcare protection and improve immunisation coverage throughout the district.
