TTAADC introduces a hybrid work model from May 16 to reduce fuel consumption and government expenditure. Employees will work physically three days weekly and remotely for the remaining days under new austerity measures across Tripura administration.

The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has introduced a new hybrid work policy for its employees as part of a major austerity and fuel conservation initiative. The new arrangement, which comes into effect from May 16, 2026, combines physical office attendance with work-from-home duties in an effort to reduce government expenditure and minimize fuel usage.

Under the revised work schedule, employees of the Council will attend offices physically on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Duties on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be performed remotely from home. The order will continue until further notification from the authority.

The decision was formally communicated through an official memorandum issued by Raval Hemendra Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. According to the memorandum, the initiative has been taken in response to the growing need for financial discipline and fuel conservation amid rising energy and transportation costs.

The memorandum noted that the move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal encouraging institutions and citizens to adopt work-from-home practices wherever possible to reduce fuel consumption. Increasing petrol and diesel prices were highlighted as major concerns influencing the Council’s decision to implement expenditure-cutting measures within the administration.

As per the guidelines issued under the new policy, employees working remotely must remain available through telephone and electronic communication channels for official responsibilities and emergency matters. Authorities emphasized that work-from-home arrangements should not affect administrative efficiency or delay government services.

The memorandum also clarified that employees will not be allowed to leave their assigned station without prior permission or proper intimation to the competent authority during the period of remote work. Officials stated that strict compliance with the instructions would be monitored to ensure smooth functioning of administrative activities.

In another significant step toward energy conservation, the Council has announced plans to hire and use the maximum possible number of electric vehicles for official transportation whenever necessary. The administration believes that increasing the use of electric mobility can substantially reduce fuel expenses and support environmentally sustainable governance practices.

However, the order clearly states that offices and employees engaged in essential and emergency services will remain outside the purview of the hybrid arrangement. Critical services and emergency operations are expected to continue without any disruption.

The latest move by the Council follows similar austerity measures already introduced by the Tripura government. Earlier, the General Administration Department directed that 50 percent of Group C and Group D employees in government departments, public sector undertakings, and autonomous bodies work from home on a rotational basis to conserve fuel and reduce expenditure.

Several ministers, including Chief Minister Manik Saha, have also adopted symbolic conservation measures by reducing escort vehicles, limiting convoys, and opting for bicycles and electric rickshaws for transportation in recent weeks.

Officials believe the new hybrid work model could become an important administrative strategy for balancing governance efficiency with economic and environmental responsibility during a period of rising operational costs.
