India marks one year of Operation Sindoor, the precision military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, highlighting India’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism, strategic restraint, and the armed forces’ decisive action against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK.

A year after Indian armed forces launched precision strikes on terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the country is commemorating the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, a military action widely viewed as a defining response to cross-border terrorism.

The operation, conducted on May 6 and 7 last year, came in the aftermath of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, where 26 innocent civilians lost their lives. The victims included tourists and a local pony ride operator who reportedly attempted to protect visitors during the assault. Several newly married couples were among those killed, while many victims were shot at close range in front of family members.

According to official accounts, the attackers allegedly separated victims based on religion and forced them to recite Islamic verses to identify non-Muslims before carrying out the killings. The Resistance Front, considered an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organisation, claimed responsibility for the massacre.

In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting what authorities described as high-value terror camps and operational infrastructure linked to extremist groups operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Officials characterised the military action as focused, measured and non-escalatory, aimed specifically at dismantling terror capabilities without provoking broader conflict.

On the first anniversary of the operation, the Indian Army paid tribute to the mission and the armed forces personnel involved. In a message shared publicly, the Army described the action as “India’s resolute response” and emphasised the country’s commitment to protecting national sovereignty and citizens from terrorism.

The Headquarters of the Indian Defence Staff also referred to Operation Sindoor as a “symbol of national resolve,” underscoring the strategic and emotional significance the mission continues to hold within India’s defence establishment.

To mark the occasion, the Army released a commemorative video documenting the planning and execution of the operation. The footage highlighted intelligence coordination, precision targeting and military preparedness that reportedly played a crucial role in the success of the strikes.

The video also revisited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong statements delivered after the Pahalgam attack. Addressing the nation in the aftermath of the killings, the Prime Minister had vowed that India would “identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers,” signalling a determined response against terrorism.

Another message featured in the Army’s presentation reinforced India’s diplomatic and security position. Prime Minister Modi had declared that “terror and talk cannot go together,” while also stressing that “terror and trade cannot go hand in hand,” remarks interpreted as a clear warning against state-sponsored terrorism.

Defence analysts have described Operation Sindoor as one of the most significant demonstrations of India’s modern military capability, combining precision warfare with strategic restraint. Security officials maintain that the mission successfully disrupted terror infrastructure, deterred further aggression and reinforced India’s long-standing zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.
