Tensions in parts of Tripura remained under scrutiny as Chief Minister Manik Saha visited violence-affected areas in Khowai district on Tuesday, following reports of unrest after the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council election results. The visit focused on assessing ground realities, reassuring affected residents, and reinforcing the administration’s stance against political violence.

Upon arrival, Dr. Saha held a high-level review meeting at the BJP’s Khowai district office. Senior leaders, including State General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, District President Binoy Debbarma, and MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury, were present. Discussions centered on maintaining law and order, ensuring the safety of party workers, and implementing immediate steps to stabilize the situation in sensitive areas.

Following the meeting, the Chief Minister travelled to Korongichhara in the Asharambari constituency. There, he met families whose homes were reportedly targeted during the post-election unrest. Interacting directly with residents, he assured them of administrative support and emphasized that those responsible for the attacks would face legal consequences.

Later in the day, Dr. Saha visited Kachubari, where the house of BJP worker Raj Kumar Debbarma was allegedly set on fire and looted. During his interaction with the affected family, the Chief Minister promised government assistance, including the construction of a new house and provision of essential household items. He reiterated that incidents of violence after elections would not be tolerated and warned that perpetrators would be identified and prosecuted under the law.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had also visited Hezamara, where another affected resident, Dhiraj Debbarma, reported vandalism at his home. Accompanied by senior officials and Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, Dr. Saha assured financial assistance and justice. The administration, he said, is committed to ensuring that victims receive both immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation.

Reports indicate that over 200 BJP workers have been displaced in recent days amid the unrest, with several families seeking shelter at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel. The state government has already announced financial assistance amounting to Rs 64.50 lakh for 258 affected families in the initial phase, with further support measures under consideration.
