Tripura Tourism Development Forum charts strategic roadmap to boost tourism growth, improve infrastructure, enhance connectivity, and promote new destinations in Agartala, positioning Tripura as a rising tourism hub in Northeast India with increasing national visibility and visitor interest.
A fresh push to strengthen tourism prospects in northeastern India unfolded in Agartala on Tuesday, where key stakeholders gathered to outline an ambitious roadmap for the sector’s growth. The annual general meeting of the Tripura Tourism Development Forum brought together policymakers, civic leaders, and media representatives, all focused on unlocking the state’s vast tourism potential.
Held at Hotel Elite, the session served as a platform for detailed discussions on improving Tripura’s tourism infrastructure and enhancing its visibility across the country. Among the prominent attendees were Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, and Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, along with TTDF President Parikshit Dey.
The meeting focused on identifying gaps in the current tourism framework while also highlighting the state’s untapped destinations. Participants stressed the need to enhance connectivity—both road and air—modernize tourism infrastructure, and promote lesser-known attractions that could draw domestic and international visitors alike.
Addressing the media, Rajib Bhattacharjee pointed out that northeastern states, including Tripura, had historically received limited attention in terms of tourism development. He noted that in recent years, increased focus at the national level has begun to change this trajectory, enabling the region to emerge as a promising destination.

He further emphasized that ongoing upgrades to tourist facilities have already contributed to a rise in visitor numbers from outside the state. A notable example cited during the discussion was the recent visit of Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty to the revered Mata Tripureswari Temple, which has helped spotlight Tripura on the national tourism map.
Speakers at the forum highlighted the importance of developing new destinations in a sustainable manner. There was a strong consensus on balancing tourism growth with environmental preservation, ensuring that natural landscapes and cultural heritage remain protected even as visitor numbers increase.
The deliberations also underscored the importance of coordinated efforts among government agencies, civic bodies, and local communities. Stakeholders believe that such collaboration will be crucial in positioning Tripura more prominently within India’s tourism circuit.

The discussions concluded with a clear and unified vision: Tripura is prepared to step forward and establish itself as a competitive and compelling destination in India’s evolving tourism landscape.
