Post-Poll election violence grips Tripura as BJP office torched in Manu Bankul, rubber plantations destroyed, and tensions rise amid political clashes. Leaders demand peace, stronger security, and urgent administrative action following escalating unrest across the state.
Violence in Tripura has intensified in the aftermath of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council election 2026 results, with fresh unrest reported from Manu Bankul. On Monday night, unidentified miscreants allegedly torched a local office of the Bharatiya Janata Party at Natun Bazar, triggering widespread concern among party workers and residents.
According to local sources, the attackers set the office ablaze and vandalised surrounding property, leaving behind significant damage. The incident marks another escalation in a series of violent episodes that have been reported across the state since the poll results were declared on April 17. Party members claimed the attack was premeditated and politically motivated.
In a separate but related development, nearly 20 rubber trees belonging to BJP youth leader Sushanta Mog were allegedly cut down in his plantation in the Manu area. The destruction of livelihood assets has further deepened tensions, with local leaders terming it an act of intimidation aimed at silencing political opposition.
Leaders of the BJP in the region have squarely blamed supporters of Tipra Motha Party for orchestrating the attacks. However, no official confirmation has been issued by authorities regarding the identity of those involved. The accusations have added a new layer of political friction between rival groups in the state.
Speaking to reporters, a local BJP leader condemned the violence and questioned the apparent contradiction between calls for unity and the unfolding attacks. Referring to the slogan “Thansa,” which signifies unity in Kokborok, the leader asked whether such acts of arson and aggression align with the message of peace being promoted publicly.
He also highlighted the timing of the incident, noting that the violence occurred during Garia Puja, a significant festival for indigenous communities in the region. “This is a day meant for harmony and cultural celebration, yet we are witnessing attacks on our own people,” he remarked.
Party officials confirmed that details of the incidents have been communicated to senior leadership in Agartala. They are currently awaiting further instructions while urging authorities to take swift action. The leadership has described the attacks as deeply unfortunate and has called for immediate measures to restore peace.
