Tripura celebrates Garia Puja with unity and devotion as CM Manik Saha extends greetings, highlighting harmony, cultural heritage, and inclusive participation across communities in one of the state’s most significant indigenous festivals.

A vibrant wave of devotion and cultural unity swept across Tripura on Tuesday as people from diverse communities came together to celebrate Garia Puja, one of the most revered traditional festivals of the state’s indigenous population. Observed annually on the seventh day of Baisakh, the festival highlighted not only spiritual beliefs but also the enduring spirit of harmony among different sections of society.

From remote villages to bustling urban neighborhoods, rituals dedicated to Baba Garia were performed with deep reverence. The festival, particularly significant for the Jamatia and other tribal communities, reflects centuries-old traditions rooted in nature worship, prosperity, and communal well-being. Preparations for the occasion had begun weeks in advance, with households and local committees making elaborate arrangements for offerings, decorations, and ceremonial practices.

In several parts of the state, including Agartala and nearby tribal-dominated areas, Garia Puja was celebrated both privately within families and collectively in public spaces. The atmosphere was marked by traditional music, cultural performances, and rituals symbolizing gratitude and hope for prosperity. In some regions, age-old customs, including symbolic offerings, were observed, maintaining a link between modern celebrations and ancestral practices.

The inclusive character of the festival stood out prominently as people across caste, creed, and economic backgrounds participated enthusiastically. The celebration has gradually transformed from being a predominantly tribal religious event into a unifying cultural festival for the entire state, showcasing Tripura’s rich heritage and social cohesion.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Manik Saha extended his heartfelt greetings to the people, expressing hope that the spirit of Garia Puja would further strengthen peace, harmony, and unity in society. He emphasized the importance of preserving traditional festivals while fostering inclusivity and mutual respect among communities.

Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, along with Minister Ratan Lal Nath and BJP State President and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee, also conveyed their greetings. They collectively underscored the cultural and social significance of Garia Puja as a festival that brings people together beyond social divides.
