Valuable agarwood trees stolen in North Tripura sparks outrage as residents demand urgent police action. Rising theft cases raise security concerns, prompting calls for stricter measures to protect high-value natural resources and ensure swift justice in Kadamtala.

A fresh wave of concern has emerged in North Tripura following a high-value theft that has left residents demanding urgent police action and stronger protection measures for valuable natural resources. The incident, which took place in Saraspur Colony under the Kalagangar Par Gram Panchayat, has highlighted growing security challenges in the region.

According to local reports, miscreants targeted a private garden in Ward No. 1 of Kadamiala village late Tuesday night and stole four mature agarwood trees. The trees, known for their immense commercial and medicinal value, are estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees. The theft was discovered early Wednesday morning, shocking residents on the very first day of the Bengali New Year.

The stolen trees belonged to the garden maintained by the Mahadev Bari community. Upon discovering the loss, locals quickly gathered at the site and expressed anger over what they described as a recurring pattern of organized theft. Community members, along with Panchayat representative Abdul Haque, formally lodged a complaint at the Kadamtala Police Station, urging swift investigation and immediate arrests.

Ranjit Nath, secretary of the Mahadev Bari Committee, emphasized that the incident has united people across communities. Residents from both Hindu and Muslim backgrounds jointly demanded justice and called for stricter vigilance in the area. He stressed that agarwood cultivation is not only a source of livelihood but also a valuable regional asset that requires protection.

Police officials from Tripura Police have assured the public that prompt action will be taken. Investigations are currently underway, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend those involved in the theft. Authorities have also indicated that patrols in vulnerable areas may be intensified to prevent further incidents.

This is not an isolated case. Over the past few months, several agarwood plantations across Kadamtala and surrounding areas have reportedly been targeted by thieves. The recurring nature of these crimes has raised serious concerns about organized illegal activities linked to the high demand for agarwood in domestic and international markets.

As pressure mounts, the incident serves as a reminder of the urgent need to safeguard valuable natural resources and ensure security in rural regions.
