Tripura Fisheries Development Corporation will distribute 6,700 kg of fresh fish across multiple government counters on April 15 ahead of Bengali New Year. The initiative aims to ensure affordable supply, support local farmers, and strengthen the state’s aquaculture economy during festive demand.
The Tripura government has announced a large-scale festive initiative through the Tripura Fisheries Development Corporation (TFDC) to distribute 6,700 kilograms of fresh fish across multiple government-run counters on April 15, just ahead of the Bengali New Year celebrations. The move is designed to ensure that households across the state can access high-quality fish at fair and regulated prices during the peak festive season.
Officials from TFDC stated that the entire supply will be sourced directly from government-operated fish farms, ensuring freshness, quality control, and affordability. The initiative is part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen local aquaculture while simultaneously meeting rising seasonal demand.
A wide variety of freshwater fish will be made available to consumers. These include popular species such as Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common Carp, and Silver Carp. The selection has been carefully planned to cater to diverse consumer preferences and traditional culinary practices associated with the New Year celebrations.
To ensure smooth distribution, fish sale counters will be set up at several strategic locations across the state. Major points include areas such as Kanchanpur, Panisagar, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, Kamalpur, Khowai, Chakmaghat, Mandai, Udaipur, Amarpur, and Sabroom. Additional sales counters will also operate in locations like Ganganagar, Fatikroy, Karamchara, Ganaki, Lembucherra, Kalamchoura, Kamalasagar, Bagmara, Dhanisagar, R.M. Dighi, TFIT Farm Complex in Udaipur, NFS Farm, and Muhuripur Fisheries Sales Counter.
Authorities have emphasized that all distribution points will follow strict monitoring procedures to avoid overcrowding and ensure transparent pricing. Special arrangements are expected to be in place to manage festive rush and maintain orderly access for consumers.
The TFDC highlighted that this initiative is not only about meeting seasonal demand but also about empowering local fish farmers. By directly channeling produce from government farms to consumers, the corporation aims to reduce intermediary costs and ensure better returns for producers. This farm-to-market approach is expected to provide a significant boost to the state’s aquaculture ecosystem.
Officials further noted that fish farming remains a key livelihood sector in Tripura, and such government-led distribution programs help stabilize market prices during high-demand periods. The initiative also aligns with the state’s long-term goal of expanding sustainable fisheries production and improving rural income opportunities.
Residents across Tripura are expected to benefit significantly from this initiative as it ensures both availability and affordability of essential food items during one of the most culturally significant festivals of the year. The distribution drive is likely to witness high demand, especially in urban and semi-urban centers where fish consumption traditionally increases during celebrations.
