Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha honours police personnel and NCC cadets during Independence Day celebrations in Agartala, highlighting national unity, service, sacrifice and the state’s commitment to building a developed Tripura by 2047.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday called Independence Day a symbol of national unity and the collective dream of building a developed and self-reliant India, while urging people of the state to work together towards the goal of creating a developed Tripura by 2047.
Addressing the state-level Independence Day celebrations at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala, Dr. Saha hoisted the national flag and paid tribute to the freedom fighters and nation-builders whose sacrifices and dedication paved the way for India’s independence. He said the occasion was not merely a celebration of freedom but also an opportunity to renew the nation’s commitment to progress, unity and self-reliance.
The Chief Minister highlighted the achievements of Tripura in different sectors and appealed to citizens to dedicate themselves to fulfilling the vision of a developed Tripura by 2047. He said the state’s progress would require collective participation, a strong sense of responsibility and continued commitment to national development.
A major highlight of the state-level celebration was the felicitation of police officers and personnel for their outstanding contribution, dedication, integrity and professional excellence. Dr. Saha presented certificates and medals to recipients of last year’s President’s Police Medals.
For Distinguished Service, President’s Medal was awarded to Tripura Director General of Police (in-charge) G.S. Rao. The Chief Minister personally handed over the certificate and medal to the senior police officer.
President’s Police Medals for Meritorious Service were also conferred on Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma, Superintendent of Police Maniklal Das, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Debbarma, SDPO Pannalal Sen, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamal Debbarma and Subedar Niranjan Debbarma of the 8th Battalion TSR.
The Chief Minister also felicitated DIGP (Northern Range) Ratiranjan Debnath, Subedar Pashuram Debbarma of the 1st Battalion TSR, Havildar Dilip Kumar Singh of the 5th Battalion TSR, Special Branch Constable Dhruv Kapali, Police Training Academy Constable Uttam Debnath and North District Constable Hemendra Chandra Nath after they received the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service.
Sub-Inspector Jhutan Jamatia was honoured with the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence, recognising his professional contribution and service.
The Independence Day programme also recognised the achievements of Tripura’s NCC personnel who participated in the Republic Day camp in New Delhi last year. Senior Under Officer Salka Debbarma of 13 Tripura Battalion NCC, Senior Under Officer Joydeep Saha of 15 Tripura Battalion NCC, Under Officer Sagarika Majumdar of 13 Tripura Battalion NCC, Under Officer Krishna Vaishnav of 15 Tripura Battalion NCC, Cadet Shahit Debbarma of 13 Tripura Battalion NCC and Cadet Akash Jamatia of 15 Tripura Battalion NCC were honoured with certificates and medals.
During the ceremony, the names of police officers and personnel selected for the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service on Independence Day this year were also announced. However, the certificates and medals for the 2026 awardees will be formally presented during the Republic Day celebrations in 2027.
The Chief Minister’s Independence Day message combined remembrance with a forward-looking appeal. Paying homage to those who made the country’s freedom possible, Dr. Saha urged citizens to strengthen the spirit of unity and contribute to development at every level.

He emphasised that the vision of a developed Tripura by 2047 must be transformed into a shared commitment among the people of the state. The recognition of police personnel and NCC cadets during the celebration also underscored the importance of discipline, dedication, public service and patriotism in the journey towards a stronger and more prosperous Tripura.
