24 Tipra Motha supporters join BJP in Kalyanpur ahead of TTAADC elections, signaling a major political shift. Leaders cite development, governance, and stability as key reasons, boosting BJP’s grassroots strength in Tripura’s tribal regions.
In a political development ahead of the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, a total of 24 voters from six families have switched allegiance from the Tipra Motha Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kalyanpur.
The political shift took place at Nakshirai ADC village under Kalyanpur on Sunday, reflecting an intensifying phase of grassroots-level realignments in the run-up to the crucial tribal council elections. The joining programme was organized at Booth No. 5 of the constituency and witnessed the presence of key local leaders and party workers.
Local MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury formally welcomed the new entrants into the BJP fold. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that the growing support for the BJP across Tripura reflects public confidence in the party’s governance model, which prioritizes development, transparency, and stability.
Several party leaders, including Mandal president Nitai Bal and senior functionary Ashim Deb Roy, were also present at the programme. They echoed similar sentiments, asserting that the BJP-led government has consistently delivered on its promises, especially in tribal areas under the TTAADC. According to them, the recent shift of supporters from Tipra Motha to BJP is a clear indication of changing political preferences among voters.
“The people of Tripura are choosing progress over promises,” one of the speakers stated, urging the new members to actively participate in developmental initiatives and contribute to strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.
The newly joined members expressed their reasons for switching sides, highlighting the developmental initiatives undertaken by the BJP government in recent years. They stated that improvements in infrastructure, welfare schemes, and governance motivated them to align with the ruling party.
“We believe BJP can bring sustainable development to our areas,” one of the new members said, adding that they are eager to work under the party’s banner to uplift their communities.
Political observers note that such defections, although small in number, can have a broader psychological and electoral impact, especially in closely contested constituencies within the TTAADC. The BJP is expected to capitalize on these developments as it seeks to strengthen its foothold in tribal-dominated regions.
