Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor secured a historic victory in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 18,963 votes. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary congratulated Kishor, marking a significant political shift in Bihar and ending BJP’s long-standing dominance.

Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor achieved a landmark political victory by winning the Bankipur Assembly by-election, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by a convincing margin of 18,963 votes. The result marks the first electoral victory of Kishor’s political career and signals a major shift in Bihar’s political landscape, as the BJP’s long-standing dominance in the constituency came to an end.

According to the Election Commission, after the completion of all 31 rounds of vote counting, Prashant Kishor secured 63,203 votes, comfortably ahead of BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha, who received 44,250 votes. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Rekha Kumari Gupta finished a distant third with 14,085 votes, making the contest a decisive victory for the Jan Suraaj founder.

The Bankipur Assembly by-election had attracted significant attention across Bihar, with political observers anticipating a closely fought triangular contest between Jan Suraaj, BJP, and RJD. However, as counting progressed, Kishor established an early lead and consistently widened the gap over his rivals, transforming what was expected to be a competitive election into a commanding win.

The scale of the victory was particularly notable, as the main contest quickly shifted from determining the winner to deciding the runner-up. While the BJP retained the second position, the RJD lagged far behind both leading candidates, highlighting the growing political influence of Jan Suraaj in the state.

Following the announcement of the results, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary congratulated Prashant Kishor on his victory. In a message shared on X, Choudhary acknowledged the verdict delivered by the voters of Bankipur, describing the election as part of the “great festival of democracy.” He extended his congratulations to Kishor while expressing respect for the people’s democratic mandate.

Political analysts believe the result could have far-reaching implications for Bihar politics. Prashant Kishor, who previously earned national recognition as a political strategist before launching his own political platform, has now secured his first direct electoral success. The victory is expected to strengthen Jan Suraaj’s position ahead of future political contests and enhance Kishor’s credibility as a political leader.

The by-election result is also being viewed as a significant setback for the BJP in Bankipur, a constituency that had remained under the party’s influence for several years. With Jan Suraaj successfully breaking that dominance, the outcome is likely to influence political strategies across Bihar in the coming months.

As celebrations continue among Jan Suraaj supporters, the Bankipur verdict has emerged as one of the most closely watched political developments in Bihar, reinforcing Prashant Kishor’s emergence as a serious electoral force in the state.
