Tripura CM Manik Saha expresses strong confidence in BJP’s stellar victory in upcoming TTAADC elections, highlighting tribal development, governance change, and expanded organisational strength ahead of crucial autonomous district council and village committee polls.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday exuded confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised for a stellar performance in the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Addressing media persons after participating in a massive roadshow at the TTAADC headquarters in Khumulwng, the Chief Minister asserted that a decisive political change is imminent in the tribal autonomous body.
The roadshow, organised under the theme “Empowering Janajati, Empowering Tripura,” witnessed enthusiastic participation from party workers and supporters. Saha said the overwhelming turnout reflected growing public support for the BJP across tribal areas. He maintained that since Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, development initiatives targeting Janajati communities have significantly accelerated nationwide.

“Our government is committed to continuing that momentum in Tripura. The current condition of governance in the ADC is not satisfactory. A change is the need of the hour, and that change is possible only if the BJP secures a majority,” Saha said. He expressed confidence that the party would secure a clear mandate in both the TTAADC and Village Committee (VC) elections.
The Chief Minister also dismissed allegations that salaries of TTAADC staff were withheld ahead of the Holi festival. Clarifying the issue, he said a technical error had caused temporary delays but was resolved promptly. “As soon as the matter was brought to my notice, I directed officials to ensure immediate disbursal of funds,” he added.
Highlighting welfare measures, Saha stated that the state government’s recent decision to increase stipends for hostel inmates under the Tribal Welfare Department would impose an additional financial burden of Rs 30 crore on the state exchequer. However, he termed the move essential for strengthening educational support to tribal students.

Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who attended the event, said the BJP has steadily expanded its organisational base in TTAADC areas since coming to power in 2018. He alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had previously treated tribal voters as a “vote bank,” but its support base eroded after the BJP’s rise in the state.
The TTAADC, a politically significant 30-member constitutional body, currently remains under the control of the Tipra Motha Party, which has governed the council since 2021. The autonomous council administers nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s geographical area and plays a crucial role in safeguarding the interests of indigenous communities.

With tribal voters constituting nearly one-third of Tripura’s population, the upcoming elections—likely to be held in March or April—are expected to shape the state’s political trajectory. Apart from the BJP and its allies, parties such as the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura and the Indian National Congress are also intensifying efforts to consolidate support.
Saha reiterated that the BJP envisions comprehensive development in TTAADC areas, promising improved infrastructure, educational opportunities, and economic empowerment. “We have big plans for the region. The coming days will witness real transformation,” he said, adding that the enthusiastic response to the Khumulwng roadshow signals a strong start to the party’s campaign.
