Union Budget 2026 hailed as a game-changer by Tripura Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, focusing on middle-class relief, education, healthcare, women empowerment, AI-driven agriculture, tax reforms, and inclusive growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision.

Tripura Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday described the Union Budget 2026 as a “game-changer” that will significantly accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing party workers and senior leaders from the Majlishpur Assembly constituency, Chowdhury said the Budget, presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament, represents the third full-fledged welfare-oriented financial roadmap of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government. According to him, the Budget is firmly rooted in the guiding philosophy of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas, ensuring inclusive growth across all sections of society.

Chowdhury noted that the Union Budget 2026 focuses strongly on self-reliance, economic resilience, and social justice, while simultaneously providing relief to the middle-class salaried population. He said the Budget strikes a careful balance between fiscal discipline and people-centric development, strengthening India’s production capacity, enhancing energy security, and reducing dependence on imports.

“The Finance Minister has sent a clear message that India’s growth story will be powered by innovation, self-reliance, and human capital,” Chowdhury said, adding that the Budget lays a strong foundation for sustainable and long-term economic progress.

One of the major highlights of the Budget, he said, is the emphasis on bridging the gap between education and employment. The government has proposed the formation of a high-powered permanent committee to prioritize growth in the services sector while evaluating the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. Chowdhury said this initiative would prepare India’s youth for future job markets and global competitiveness.

The Minister also welcomed the introduction of a new Income Tax Law, which will come into effect from April 1. Under the revised framework, the deadline for filing income tax returns has been extended to July 31 for individual taxpayers and August 31 for unaudited businesses and trusts. He described the move as a significant relief for taxpayers and professionals.

Healthcare and social infrastructure have also received major attention in the Union Budget 2026. Chowdhury highlighted proposals for the establishment of medical tourism hubs, caregiver support systems, and women’s hostels in every district. These initiatives, he said, would strengthen healthcare delivery while generating employment opportunities at the local level.

In the education sector, the government has announced the construction of 16,000 new secondary schools across the country. Chowdhury said this would improve access to quality education, particularly in rural and underserved regions, and contribute to reducing dropout rates.

The Minister further praised the government’s continued focus on women empowerment and entrepreneurship. New schemes aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs will build upon the success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative, enabling women to become financially independent and active contributors to the economy.

Banking sector reforms also feature prominently in the Budget, with a proposal to set up a high-level committee to strengthen financial security and improve customer services. Chowdhury said these reforms would enhance trust in the banking system and promote financial inclusion.

Price relief measures announced in the Budget have already had an immediate impact. Chowdhury pointed to the reduction in the cost of 17 cancer medicines, diabetes drugs, solar equipment, and expenses related to overseas education. He also noted that gold prices fell by Rs 4,445 shortly after the Budget announcement, with 10 grams priced at Rs 1,47,900, offering relief to consumers.

Another key initiative highlighted by the Minister is ‘Bharat Vistar’, an AI-based platform designed to modernize agriculture. He said the tool would help make farming more efficient, data-driven, and organized, thereby reshaping India’s rural economy and improving farmers’ incomes.

Chowdhury concluded that the Union Budget 2026 reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life of ordinary citizens while creating opportunities for marginalized communities. Local BJP workers expressed enthusiasm after the meeting, stating that the Budget’s welfare measures and forward-looking reforms would bring tangible benefits to households across Tripura and the nation.
