CII welcomes Union Budget 2026, praising its focus on tourism-led growth, inclusive healthcare, and region-specific development. The Budget is expected to boost the North East’s economic potential, strengthen social infrastructure, and promote sustainable, inclusive growth nationwide.
The CII welcomes the Union Budget 2026, noting its emphasis on inclusive development, regional growth, and long-term capacity building across key sectors of the economy.
This budget strikes a delicate balance between economic growth and social priorities. The North East region is poised to reap substantial benefits from this budget, which underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and regional development.
Commenting on the overall Budget, Mr Pradeep Bagla, Chairman, CII North East Council and Managing Director, Amrit Cement Limited said, “The Union Budget 2026 reinforces the government’s commitment to balanced and sustainable growth, with targeted interventions that strengthen regional development, social infrastructure and economic resilience. The focus on tourism, healthcare and community linked development aligns well with industry’s long term growth priorities.”
Highlighting the announcement on the Buddhist Circuit initiative in the North East, Mr Bhaskar Phukan, Chairman, CII Assam State Council and Managing Director, Numaligarh Refinery Limited, stated, that “The Buddhist Circuit initiative in the North East is a significant step towards unlocking the region’s cultural and tourism potential. The decision is expected to catalyse sustainable tourism infrastructure, attract private investment, promote cultural exchange, and support community livelihoods, while creating long-term value for the region.”
On the proposal to establish National Mental Health Institutes in Tezpur, along with NIMHANS II, he added that “The expansion of national mental health institutions marks a major advancement in strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem. This initiative will improve regional access to quality mental healthcare and is a meaningful step towards inclusive care, particularly for the ageing population and underserved regions.”

Adding further, he mentioned that the announcement to promote the agarwood sector in the North East will strengthen sustainable cultivation, value addition and exports, create rural livelihoods and support MSME growth particularly in Assam and Tripura thereby unlocking the NE region’s significant economic potential. It may be mentioned that the Tripura and Assam have the highest repository of Agarwood in the country.
The CII noted that the Budget’s focus on region specific development and social infrastructure will play a critical role in supporting employment, entrepreneurship and inclusive equitable growth across the region and country.
