Tripura Governor urges NIT Agartala graduates to drive innovation and research aligned with local needs as 1,191 students receive degrees at the institute’s 18th convocation, highlighting technology, employment success, and the vision of a developed Tripura by 2047.
The 18th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala was held with great enthusiasm on Saturday at the Vivekananda Seminar Hall of the institute, marking a significant milestone for the graduating students. Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered an inspiring address focused on innovation, social responsibility, and the role of technology in regional development.
A total of 1,191 students were awarded degree certificates across a wide range of academic programmes, including PhD, MTech, MCA, MBA, MSc, BTech, BT, BSMS, and BTMT, officials confirmed. The convocation celebrated academic excellence, perseverance, and the successful completion of years of rigorous study by students from diverse disciplines. The Governor personally presented gold medals to meritorious students who secured top ranks in their respective programmes, acknowledging their outstanding academic achievements.
Addressing the graduating batch, Governor Nallu reminded students that while they had successfully passed several examinations during their academic journey, the real test of life was about to begin. He urged them to remain committed to social service, ethical values, and research-driven problem-solving. According to the Governor, higher education should not only lead to personal success but must also contribute meaningfully to society.
Referring to the rapid pace of technological change, the Governor emphasized the growing influence of modern technology and artificial intelligence in shaping the future. However, he cautioned students against viewing artificial intelligence as a complete replacement for human capability. “Technology is a powerful tool, but human intellect, creativity, and skills remain the foundation of all progress,” he said, encouraging graduates to continuously upgrade their knowledge while retaining a human-centric approach.
The Governor also stressed the importance of respecting teachers, comparing their role to that of parents in shaping character and knowledge. He highlighted that India’s education system, built over centuries, is strong and structured, but must evolve constantly to meet emerging global challenges. Continuous skill development, innovation, and adaptability, he noted, are essential for national progress.
Linking education with national goals, Governor Nallu referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a developed India by 2047. He said that the Tripura government has aligned itself with this vision and aims to achieve a developed Tripura by 2047. The Governor called upon students to actively participate in this transformation, pointing out that the present generation of graduates would be among the primary beneficiaries of a developed nation.
Highlighting the importance of region-specific innovation, the Governor urged NIT Agartala students to focus their research and technological expertise on areas relevant to Tripura’s economy and environment. He specifically mentioned the need for scientific measurement techniques for assessing natural rubber quality, development of advanced bamboo-based products, improved agarwood essence extraction methods, and technological solutions to control foul odour from the waste dumping station near Agartala. Such innovations, he said, could significantly improve livelihoods and environmental sustainability in the state.
The Governor also advised the institute to further strengthen its research and innovation ecosystem, fostering stronger industry-academia collaboration. He praised NIT Agartala for its consistent performance and its growing reputation as a leading technical institution in the Northeast.

NIT Agartala Director Prof S K Patra, in his address, highlighted the institute’s academic progress and placement achievements. He informed that during the 2024–25 academic session, approximately 81 per cent of BTech graduates secured employment in reputed national and international companies. These included MECON, Welspun India, Bharat Electronics Limited, Saint-Gobain, Amazon, Larsen & Toubro, Wipro, Capgemini, Hyundai Motors, and Visa, reflecting the institute’s strong industry connect and quality of education.
The convocation ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Kriti Devi and former Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Arunoday Saha, along with faculty members, parents, and students. The event concluded with a sense of optimism and responsibility as graduates stepped forward to begin a new chapter, carrying the expectations of society and the vision of a technologically empowered Tripura.
