Tripura CM Saha assures full support to a 19-year-old student brutally assaulted in Gurugram by her live-in partner. Haryana Police arrest accused as investigation intensifies, sparking nationwide outrage and demands for swift justice.
In a strong show of solidarity and administrative intervention, CM Dr. Manik Saha has assured all possible support to the family of a 19-year-old student from Tripura who was allegedly brutally assaulted by her live-in partner in Gurugram. The incident has sparked widespread outrage across Tripura and other northeastern states, prompting swift action from both state and central authorities.
According to officials from the Chief Minister’s Office in Agartala, the Chief Minister, who is currently in New Delhi, met the victim’s parents on Tuesday and expressed deep empathy over the shocking incident. In a statement shared on social media, Saha said he stood firmly with the family during this heartbreaking time and assured them of the state government’s unwavering support.
The Chief Minister further directed the Special Chief Resident Commissioner at Tripura Bhawan in Delhi to extend all necessary assistance to the victim’s family. The Tripura government has also decided to bear the entire cost of the victim’s medical treatment, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder her recovery.
Earlier, Saha had spoken with his Haryana counterpart, Nayab Singh Saini, seeking swift and fair justice in the case. According to sources, the Haryana Chief Minister assured full cooperation and prompt legal action against the accused.
The disturbing case came to light in the third week of last month when the victim made a desperate call to her mother, alleging that she had been confined and assaulted continuously for three days by her live-in partner, identified as Shivam, also 19 years old. The accused, reportedly a resident of Delhi’s Narela area, was arrested on February 19 after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Badshahpur police station in Gurugram.
The victim, a biotechnology student pursuing her studies in Gurugram, had reportedly met the accused through online chatting a few months ago. According to her mother, the accused lured her daughter with promises of marriage and later subjected her to severe physical torture.
Recounting the horrifying ordeal, the victim’s mother told the media that her daughter called her in extreme distress, fearing for her life. She alleged that the accused confined her daughter in a room, repeatedly assaulted her, and inflicted inhuman torture. Among the allegations are physical assault, burning injuries, and forced humiliation. The mother claimed that the accused burned her daughter using sanitiser and stabbed her multiple times.
Upon receiving the distress call, the mother immediately contacted the Gurugram Police, who acted swiftly to rescue the girl and shift her to a hospital. Initially, the victim was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi for emergency treatment. She is currently undergoing advanced medical care at Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital.
Police officials confirmed that serious charges, including rape and assault, have been added to the FIR. The accused has been sent to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway. Authorities have stated that the case is being closely monitored to ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
At the request of the Chief Minister, Tripura Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy also visited the hospital to assess the victim’s condition and provide moral support to the family. Additionally, Saha communicated with the office of the Union Health Minister to ensure that the survivor receives the best possible medical treatment.
The incident has triggered widespread condemnation across social and political circles. Civil society groups and student organizations in Tripura have demanded exemplary punishment for the accused, calling the assault a heinous crime that must not go unpunished.
Speaking to reporters, the victim’s mother described her daughter as a bright and dedicated student who had moved to Gurugram solely to pursue higher education. She alleged that her daughter’s condition became critical due to the prolonged and brutal assault and urged authorities to ensure strict punishment for the accused.
The case has once again brought attention to issues surrounding online relationships, live-in partnerships, and the vulnerability of young students living away from home. Authorities in both Tripura and Haryana have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and safeguarding the rights and dignity of women.
