Tripura government announces full medical support for Gurugram assault survivor. Chief Minister Manik Saha assures justice after accused Shivam’s arrest. State coordinates with Haryana and Delhi police, urging student safety and parental vigilance amid rising interstate crime concerns.

The Tripura government has announced that it will bear the entire medical expenses of a 19-year-old woman from the state who was allegedly confined and assaulted in Gurugram. The decision was confirmed by Chief Minister Manik Saha, who stated in a social media post that the state would ensure full financial support for the survivor’s treatment.

The survivor, a resident of Sepahijala district, is currently undergoing medical care in Delhi. The chief minister said the state government stands firmly beside the survivor and her family during this critical time and will take all necessary measures to support her recovery.

Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy visited the survivor and her parents at a hospital in Delhi earlier this week. Speaking to reporters, Roy said he also held discussions with police officials in Haryana and Delhi to review the progress of the investigation. He confirmed that the accused has already been arrested and expressed confidence that justice will be delivered.

According to police sources and the victim’s family, the woman allegedly met the accused, identified as Shivam, a 19-year-old resident of Delhi’s Narela area, through an online platform. She later went to live with him in Gurugram. Authorities allege that she was confined and assaulted repeatedly over a three-day period in mid-February.

On February 16, the survivor reportedly made a distress call to her mother, expressing fear for her life. Her family immediately alerted authorities, and the matter was reported to the Gurugram Police, which initiated swift action leading to the accused’s arrest.

Minister Roy emphasized that the law would take its course and that the accused would be punished as per legal provisions. “The police will do its duty, and the accused shall be punished as per law,” he said, underscoring the state government’s commitment to ensuring justice.

Chief Minister Manik Saha also spoke with Nayab Singh Saini, who assured him that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure a fair and thorough investigation. Officials said both states are coordinating closely to ensure that the legal process proceeds without delay.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of students traveling outside the state for higher education and employment opportunities. Minister Roy urged students to exercise caution while interacting with individuals online and advised parents to remain vigilant about their children living away from home.

The case has sparked wider discussions about online safety, interstate coordination in criminal investigations, and the responsibility of governments to support survivors of violent crimes. The Tripura government’s decision to bear the full medical cost has been seen as a strong message of solidarity and institutional support.
