Tripura secures 347 national and regional awards in eight years, CM Manik Saha says. The state emerges as a front runner in good governance with transparent administration, institutional reforms, and citizen-centric development aligned with the Viksit Bharat vision.

Tripura has achieved a significant milestone in governance and public administration by securing 347 national and regional awards over the past eight years, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Saturday. The achievement, he said, reflects the state’s sustained commitment to transparency, institutional strength, and citizen-centric development.

Addressing officers and stakeholders during the Good Governance Day celebration at Prajna Bhavan, Dr. Saha lauded the collective efforts of government officials, district administrations, and partner institutions for translating policy reforms into tangible outcomes on the ground. He emphasized that governance reforms in Tripura are not isolated initiatives but are deeply aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Our reforms are driven by the aspiration to build a progressive, inclusive, and future-ready Tripura,” the Chief Minister said. “We are working towards a governance system that is transparent, efficient, and responsive, where development truly reaches every citizen without discrimination.”

Tripura Emerges as a Front Runner in Governance

Highlighting the state’s growing national standing, Dr. Saha revealed that Tripura has emerged as the 7th Front Runner state in India in terms of good governance. This recognition, he noted, is the result of sustained institutional reforms, improved service delivery mechanisms, and data-driven governance models.

To further accelerate development, the Chief Minister announced that the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) has decided to introduce an index-based evaluation system. This system will assess departmental performance, monitor outcomes, and encourage healthy competition among government departments to improve efficiency and accountability.

“The index system will help us measure real impact, identify gaps, and ensure that governance outcomes are not just recorded on paper but experienced by people in their daily lives,” he said.

Dedicated Good Governance Department Driving Reforms

Dr. Saha underscored the importance of institutional mechanisms in sustaining reform momentum. He recalled that in August 2023, the Tripura government established a dedicated Good Governance Department to anchor administrative reforms, enhance inter-departmental coordination, and promote outcome-oriented governance across all sectors.

The department, he said, plays a crucial role in aligning policy objectives with implementation strategies, ensuring timely execution of schemes, and fostering a culture of accountability within the administrative framework.

“Governance is not confined to rigid structures or fixed boundaries. It is a continuous process of learning, innovation, and service,” the Chief Minister said, appreciating the officers associated with the Good Governance Department and TIFT for delivering visible results within a short period.

Governance as a Tool for Trust and Better Living

Emphasizing the broader meaning of governance, Dr. Saha stated that good governance is ultimately about improving the quality of life for citizens. It defines how decisions are made, how institutions function, and how effectively outcomes are delivered.

“Good governance builds trust between the government and the people. It ensures that public institutions are accountable, policies are inclusive, and services are delivered efficiently to every section of society,” he said.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of smooth and timely implementation of government schemes, particularly those focused on social welfare, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. He urged officers to adopt a people-first approach and remain committed to public service excellence.

Senior Officials Attend Good Governance Day Event

The event was attended by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests R.K. Samal, Good Governance Secretary Kiran Gitte, along with other senior officers and officials from various departments.

In a later statement, Dr. Saha reaffirmed the government’s resolve to strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen-centric administration as Tripura continues its journey toward inclusive growth and sustainable development.

“Our goal is to create a governance ecosystem that is efficient, compassionate, and future-ready, ensuring effective service delivery and equal opportunities for every citizen of Tripura,” he said.
