Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated a new Law College at Jirania at the outskirt of the capital. The 60-seat Law College is being established in a Private- Public Partnership (PPP) Model. The College will be affiliated with the Tripura University and managed by Anandanagar Welfare Society of West Bengal.
Officials said, out of total 6-0 seats 20 would be reserved for the students of the state only.
Apart from the Chief Minister Education Minister Ratanlal Nath- who is also the law minister of the state, Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Sabhadhipati of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Antara Sarkar Dev, Jirania Panchayat Samiti vice-chairman Pritam Debnath, Director Higher Education N.C Sharma, president of Anandnagar Welfare Society Bishnupada Das and Principal of the Jirania Law College- Dr. Boloy Bhattacharya were also present in the programme.
The Jirania Law college became third law college in Tripura after government law college and ICFAI law college. There was also one National Law University in the state , though it had not yet started functioning fully well.
In his speech the Chief Minister sought to give details of the state government’s initiatives for betterment of the education sector with overall improvement of education infrastructure, introducing quality education etc.
“We attach highest priority in the education sector”, said the Chief Minister.
Dr Saha in his inaugural speech called upon all the concerned and involved that the Law College should be made a ‘centre of excellence’.
The Chief Minister also informed the gathering state government was planning set up a University in North Tripura and a Medical College in TTAADC areas.
At the programme, Minister of Education and Law, Ratan Lal Nath said that education means life, Education means liberation, Education means light. So quality education is required for better human resources. He said that in the overall development of the state, the present government has given highest priority to education, health, agriculture and agriculture related sectors. The government is working on several schemes to promote quality education. He said that Jirania Law College has been recognized by Tripura University. Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury said that having a law college in Jirania has fulfilled a long-standing demand of the local residents. The college will run on PPP model under the management of Anandanagar Welfare Society of Howrah, West Bengal. There are 60 seats in total out of which 20 will be reserved for state students. He said, the establishment of Law College in this region will create a good environment for education.
President of Anandanagar Welfare Society Bishnupada Das delivered the welcome address. Director of Higher Education Department NC Sharma also spoke on the occasion. On the occasion, 73 female students of Ranirgaon Higher Secondary School were given bicycles and 30 landless people were given NOC of land.
