Tripura Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasizes transparency, unity, and public welfare at the 8th Triennial Conference of the Fair Price Shop Management Association, focusing on strengthening the state’s cooperative distribution network and addressing stakeholder concerns effectively.
The 8th Triennial Conference of the Tripura Fair Price Shop Management Association (Sadar AMC Committee) was inaugurated on Thursday by Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury, at the Sukanta Academy. The event drew cooperative members, dealers, and stakeholders committed to strengthening Tripura’s fair price distribution system.
In his inaugural address, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the critical role such conferences play in fostering cooperation and addressing economic and social needs. “These platforms are vital as they allow members to collectively discuss challenges, explore opportunities, and strengthen the cooperative movement,” he said. He emphasized that this was his third interaction with the dealers, underscoring his ongoing commitment to engaging with the fair price shop community.

During the conference, Chowdhury invited a delegation of five to six members to submit a detailed memorandum of demands at the Secretariat. He assured that each request would be carefully reviewed with the concerned departmental officials to ensure practical and effective solutions. This initiative reflects the government’s willingness to maintain open communication channels with cooperative stakeholders and prioritize the public interest.
A key highlight of the day was the election of a new executive committee, which will serve until March 2026. The Minister stressed that the committee’s continuation beyond its tenure would be determined based on its performance, effectiveness, and commitment to transparent governance. “The newly formed body must function with unity, transparency, and a clear focus on serving the public,” Chowdhury said, urging members to maintain ethical standards while implementing welfare initiatives.
The conference also provided a comprehensive platform for discussing the association’s ongoing activities, future goals, and developmental plans. Members reviewed financial strategies, operational challenges, and potential reforms to ensure smooth functioning of the fair price shops across the state. Through democratic elections, participants selected the next executive board, reinforcing the cooperative spirit and participatory governance that underpins the association’s objectives.
Minister Chowdhury extended his best wishes to the newly elected committee and reaffirmed the government’s support for initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the fair price shop network. He stressed that strengthening these shops is crucial not only for meeting the daily needs of the population but also for promoting transparency, equity, and accountability in the distribution system.
The conference witnessed active participation from stakeholders, who shared insights on operational hurdles, proposed development strategies, and innovative measures to improve service delivery at the grassroots level. Discussions ranged from modernizing shop management to implementing digital tools for better record-keeping and customer service. These deliberations reflect a growing emphasis on professionalism, efficiency, and sustainability in Tripura’s cooperative sector.
As Tripura continues to strengthen its public distribution system, such conferences play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among government bodies, cooperative members, and civil society. By encouraging open dialogue, democratic decision-making, and a focus on welfare-oriented outcomes, the state aims to ensure that fair price shops operate transparently and serve the public effectively.
