Tripura postgraduate student Subham Nama has been selected for the prestigious Great Indian Parliament Award 2026 for his leadership, student politics involvement, and outstanding performance at the national students’ parliament held at India’s new Parliament building.

Subham Nama, a postgraduate engineering student from Tripura, has brought pride to the state after being selected for the prestigious Great Indian Parliament Award 2026, a national-level recognition that honours outstanding youth leadership, intellectual engagement, and commitment to democratic values. The award ceremony will be held on January 24 at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, according to the event organisers.

Nama, the son of Badal Nama, hails from Indiranagar under the Melaghar Municipal Council area of Sepahijala district. Coming from a modest farming family, his journey reflects determination, academic excellence, and sustained involvement in student leadership. His achievement has been widely welcomed as a milestone for Tripura’s emerging youth leaders.

Academically, Nama has built a strong foundation in engineering and leadership studies. He completed his Bachelor of Technology in Rubber and Polymer Technology from Tripura University and is currently pursuing a Master of Technology degree at the Maharashtra Institute of Technology. In addition to his technical education, he has also enrolled in a Master of Political Leadership programme, demonstrating his commitment to understanding governance, public policy, and democratic institutions.

Nama’s engagement with student politics began early in his life. In 2015, while studying at Melaghar Higher Secondary School, he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Since then, he has remained actively involved in student organisations, serving in various leadership roles across college and university students’ unions. His long-standing association with student movements has played a significant role in shaping his political awareness and leadership abilities.

He has often cited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a Bharat Ratna awardee, as his inspiration for entering public life. Nama has expressed admiration for Vajpayee’s democratic values, inclusive politics, and vision-driven leadership, which continue to influence his ideological outlook.

In February 2025, Nama participated in a students’ parliament programme organised at the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. His performance there earned him selection for the national edition of the programme, which was later held at the new Parliament building in New Delhi. The event brought together talented youth from across the country to deliberate on political ideas, governance models, and policy challenges.

At the national-level programme, Nama delivered a well-researched speech focusing on the ideological foundations of politics in Tripura and the strengths and challenges of the Indian education system. His presentation received wide appreciation from judges and fellow participants, earning him second position among competitors. This placed him among the top five participants selected for national recognition through the Great Indian Parliament Award.

The upcoming award ceremony will felicitate the top five achievers, celebrating their contributions to democratic discourse and youth leadership. Nama’s selection is being viewed as an inspiration for students from rural and farming backgrounds, reinforcing the message that dedication, education, and civic engagement can lead to national recognition.
