Abhishek to arrive on June 14
All India Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will arrive in the state to join the party’s campaign for by-polls on June 14 next.
“Abhishek Banerjee will take part in a road show in support of the party candidates for by-polls in 6- Agartala and 8- Town Bordowali seats on June 14 next apart from other organizational programmes,” said TMC’s state in-charge Rajib Banerjee.
Addressing a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Saturday, he also said that the AITC general secretary would also campaign in favour of the party candidates for two other seats- Surma and Jubarajnagar in the next phase.
The four TMC candidates who are contesting the by-elections are- Panna Deb from 6-Agartala, Sanhita Banerjee from 8- Town Bordowali, Arjun Namasudra from 46- Surma and Dr. Mrinal Kanti Debnath from 57- Jubarajnagar. They are campaigning in full gear to reach out to the people with the appeal of vote.
According to Banerjee, along with Abhishek, many other party leaders would join the party’s candidate in the days to come.
He alleged that the party’s campaign materials were damaged by the miscreants in several places including Agartala on Friday.
They were fifth Column :
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in an uncharacteristic way went full guns blazing on Saturday against Congress candidates for 6 Agartala and 8 Bordowali constituencies Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha for playing fifth column while they were in the BJP. Dr Saha himself is contesting from 8 Bordowali seat.
The Chief Minister stepped short of naming the duo, but made his oblique reference amply clear : “They were in BJP but they had taken all possible measures to ensure victory of Trinamool Congress candidates in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. They had extended all necessary support to the TMC candidate. They were BJP MLAs and that’s why we were helpless; we could not reveal it during that time.”
The Chief Minister was addressing an election rally at Netaji Chowmuhani.
Dr Saha also took a dig at another former BJP MLA Ashis Das.
“Being a surgeon, I saw live surgeries but never saw live mundon (tonsuring)”, quipped Dr. Saha as he referred to Das’ move of shaving hair at Kalighat before his jump to the TMC. By the way Das also quit the Trinamool recently.
Speaking in the poll campaign, Dr. Saha, also mentioned that TMC had imported the culture of violence from West Bengal to Tripura before the last local body polls. They run business in the name of politics, he added.
