All political parties cutting parties supported India’s stand as far as Bangladesh developments are concerned.
The all party meet meeting held on Tuesday mainly dwelt on four issues broadly – security of Indian students, nationals who are presently in Bangladesh and their home return, the condition of the Hindus in that country, Sheikh Hasina’s present situation and whether there was any foreign hand behind the developments there.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar who chaired on all-party meeting did not rule out foreign hand behind plotting the entire movement.
He said that India is keeping a close watch on the developments in the neighbouring country.
He also briefed the all parties about the steps taken for safety of Indian students and citizens by New Delhi.
“Briefed an All-Party meeting in Parliament today about the ongoing developments in Bangladesh. Appreciate the unanimous support and understanding that was extended,” the EAM said in a post on social media platform X.
It is learnt that the Union government told the meeting that there were about 20,000 Indians presently stuck in Bangladesh. Most of whom were students. Already about 8,000 returned in the wake of movement and following an advisory released by India.
Jaishankar said that New Delhi was in touch with the Bangladesh Army, and was trying to bring back the Indians with Bangladesh army’s help.
However, Jaishankar said, as the situation in a flux and constantly changing he would keep the political parties and others fully informed.
As for Sheikh Hasina, New Delhi was waiting her to take decision regarding her future plan. She was given time to decide where she would go and seek political asylum .
Besides EAM Jaishankar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju participated in the meeting.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, T. R. Balu from DMK, SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav, TMC leader Sudip Bandopadhyay, BJD leader Sasmit Patra, along with other floor leaders of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, were present at the meeting.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting at his official residence, during which he was briefed about the entire crisis in the neighbouring nation.
