
Justice Arindam Lodh who had ordered community service ( with wages) in the form of anti drugs campaign for the relatives of two drug peddlers July 2 last on Monday granted bail for the two accused Jibanjoy Tripura and Selenjoy Tripura when the matter came up for hearing in his court.
Justice Lodh expressed his satisfaction at the way the relatives of the two accused carried out their tasks.
In his order Justice Lodh said, “…the family members including the wives of both the accused persons have undertaken anti-drug campaigning rigorously in many areas. Even they have campaigned in schools with the permission of the In-Charge, Headmasters and other teachers of the schools. It is reported that the students are highly influenced by the said campaigning”.
“I have seen the photographs, and found that so many villagers and officials have also participated and joined their hands together against the abuse of drugs in and around the area where the accused persons reside permanently”. The judge noted that Senior advocate Subrata Sarkar who stood for the accused informed the High Court that the campaigning was still continuing and now they are so much involved in the matter that they are thinking that it is their solemn responsibility and obligation towards the society to prevent trading and use of drugs in and around their area”.
“It is not unknown to the people of Tripura that the State has become a safe corridor of drug peddlers. The young generation of the State are badly affected. The law-breakers and the kingpins are taking the advantage of using the young generation of Tripura, particularly, the young boys and girls of a particular community, considering their innocence and poverty. In the instant case, the accused persons, namely, Jibanjoy Tripura and Selenjoy Tripura, were carrying intermediate quantity of drugs”.
Justice Lodh then said, this court as well as learned Additional PP have reasonable belief that from now the present accused persons will never be involved in such type of immoral acts and their family members would also resist the accused persons from repeating such type of offences”.
Justice Lodh then granted them interim bail till 05.09.2024 on executing a bond of Rs. 50,000/- each. Justice Lodh then directed both the accused persons to start antidrug campaigning in and around the areas where they reside, from the date they shall be enlarged on bail and join hands with their family members actively. The District Administration, Police officials of the District, the Officerin-Charge of Gandacherra police station and the Para Legal Volunteers of the District Legal Service Authority, shall assist both the accused persons in their anti-drug campaigning.
